Any New Toys.
« on: December 27, 2016, 08:36:53 AM »
Always fun to hear what people got for Christmas this time of year usually some great new toys for the outdoors.

I got a couple nice things for the shop, a Parts Washing tub, a 3/8 & 1/2 drive Tourque wrench set. And for the outdoors the wife picked me up a new Jiffy 4G Lite 8" ice auger. My old one finally crapped out on me last season after 24 years and couldn't find parts for it. Anxious to try out the new auger in a couple weeks when I get back from work. Interested to see how the 4 stroke works.

Walleyes, your good wife ruins you!!!!  Some sweet, useful gifts.  It should be a treat to carry gas only and not have to mix fuel anymore.  I have no doubt that you ruin your good wife by the same token.  A Happy New Year to you and yours.  Hope to see you up in this neck of the woods when you get back.

Walleyes:

Four Stroke engine. Nice!!! :)

Do you ever take an ice fishing setup with you into the Ft. St. John region when you are working that area?

Thanks. :)

No I haven't greylynx, no time. By the time a guys off work and make to eat clean up it's bed time. Come this summer though I'm going to get out some I hope. I keep talking about it the last couple summers but have never made it out. One of our Directional drillers is an outdoorsman and heads out to some of the local streams along the the Pink Moutain road and gets into the Dollies pretty good in the summer. Hope to get into it this coming summer.

It's hard for me though, work is work and home is home. I can't enjoy myself when I'm out when at work. Although we run a 2 man supervisor rotation on a 12 HR rotation we are still supposed to be on location and on call just in case an emergency happens. And drilling in that high press area one just never knows.

Got a few nice things, skeet thrower and shooting bench, it's the metal one form cabela's so not sure how good it is, but looks good from the box.  I'm setting up my own shooting range this year so it will be nice to have both of those for it. A bit of tack for the horses also, so a great Christmas for me. Hey walleyes is the jiffy the way to go with ice auger's? I need a new one and like you been years since the old one so I have no idea what is good or not. It's great to have a good wife that supports your activities.

Yah I'm not really sure you know when it comes to those augers these days. I don't care which one a guy looks at they are all plastic these days it's really disappointing. I was really looking at the Eskimos early on as a fellow I went with last year had one but it ended up not even making the season for him and he had issues. I think the recoil let go on it. This 4 G I got has a lot of plastic on it for sure but like I said they are all like that now. I filled it with oil today and left it outside for a bit to get good and cold and it started fine and ran well and idled really nice so we will see I guess. If it lasts half as long and as well as my old one I will be surprised and thankful. Man that old thing must have drilled 5000 holes lol and never missed a beat for me, and believe me it was not treated well. It lived most of its life on the rough trails but it just finally gave up the ghost, the recoil and springs finally gave out and try and find parts forget it. So I'm just going off of the service of my old jiffy and hoping I can get some srevice out of this one we will see. I bought the oldlest boy a new jiffy 8 years ago now for christmas and he's gotten good service out of it. It's one of the newer ones with a lot of plastic on it. Yes it has some cracking and issues with the plastic but engine wise it's been a good unit for him. He uses it quite extensively and on the trial with it a lot as well, it doesn't live an easy life so I'm hoping with a little love this one will last.

No real new toys but they may be coming.  Had my little guy 5.5 years old out ice fishing yesterday 9 hours on the ice and no complaints.  We landed 4 nice pike and he wants to keep going back.  Looks like I am gonna have to invest in some of my own gear now lol.  Nothing better than watching a kid out loving the outdoors.

That's a trophy fish with your boy standing beside it. Without our kids, it just a nice fish.

You keep spending time with him, he will keep going. My two girls are 20 and 25 not only do they still want to come  with me, but so does the oldest one husband and the younger one boy friend. Time well spent and the best life a man could ask for.
