Personally think a small shotgun with slugs is the way to go. All of those loud bear bangers and pepper spray is a waste of time and money. If a bear is really going to get you I don't think you will have time to do anything no matter what you have and won't see it comming. You got to ask yourself how many people actually get maulled every year in Alberta. I would think the chance is like winning the lotto
