Been awhile
« on: October 28, 2021, 02:18:45 PM »
Hello I hope everyone is well and able to make it into the field this fall.
I come with a question..
So I have to change careers to something seditary.
Well seditary ish I have full mobility, energy etc.
I just can not lift anymore and as a 25 year veteran of oil and gas I know first hand even the most sedimentary positions (that I would qualify for anyways) entail at least occasional brief physical labor of some sort.
So .... just fishing for quick ish transition ideas.
Anyone been through something similar ?
I'm sure there are a ton of possibilities and ideas I am not even aware of.
Thanks for any input, ideas or constructive comments.

Good to hear from you HS, hope all is well as it could be.

With your experience would not a supervisory role be in order or doable. Such as a Foreman or Consultant. Not sure what your field of expertise is.

Ya we are hanging in.
The wife went back to work after 8 years at home so that helps.
I dont really have a specialty more of a jack of all trades.
Generally took the first job that came along after a layoff in the past therefore have done a lot of different things.
I do have plenty of supervisory experience but every supervisor or lead op job I have had always entails some labor even if infrequent.
Not to mention i can not pass a pre employment physical.
So that kind of leaves me looking into a dreaded office job.
But between unconsciously swearing every third word and minimal tech skills I have some training to do to blend into civilization just need a direction to go in I guess.
Just keep looking into new things.
Today it was bookkeeping.

How about applying some of your experience and take some safety courses and get into the safety game. Like safety supervision and the such.

That's actually a good idea Walleyes.
Just never imagined myself as a safety guy in the past but lord knows more safety people with actual practical work experience would be a good thing.
Thanks
