BEST WINTER STARTING VEHICLE
« on: December 31, 2017, 02:45:41 PM »
My buddy has an F150 plugged in that would not start this morning. I have not plugged in or tried to start my 5.9 diesel and will wait until tomorrow.  My neighbor has a little Kia not plugged in and not started for a few days and he went out there and it started after a couple of cranks.  Maybe those Kias are better than I thought for a car to run around the city or take to the ski hill.

Last night it was -39C and our 2016 Chev Cruz fired right up and it was not plugged in. ;)

But my Ford Ranger is kinda grumpy at those temps so we keep it plugged in overnight.

Artie:
My sister owns a Kia. It does work pretty good in really cold weather, but the clearance for snow between the tire and the fender is very small and creates problems.

PS: Tell that hunting buddy of yours in High River that I wish him the best. :) He is quite the gentleman. ;)

My F150 wouldnt start this morning either.  Only plugged it in for an hour though, a couple hours after the first attempt it sputtered to life.  Only around minus 30 here over night.  Truck has always seemed a bit harder starting during the cold, however it's always started until today.  Wifes little Toyota started fine.

My Duromax's have been good starters. Both my '10 and now my '16 start good. I seldom plug them in. Started mine yesterday just to let it lube up, it has sat in front of the shack for a week and not ran. Stuck the key in yesterday and cranked it over and she started right up. Run 15-30 in it as well. If they crank over they start. It's not common practice to not plug in your vehicle but like I always say, My father never had a plug in for his equipment in the bush and he used to get nothing less than 25,000hrs out of his Cat engines. Let them warm up before use is the trick.

Batteries.

Amazing what brand new ones are like, and how shitty crappy tire ones are.

I have a Crappy Tire Battery that I keep having to charge.  I bought the battery charger at Crappy Tire to fix my problem.

Then  I bought a battery tester that was on sale for 30 bucks.

Buyer Beware, and don't be a sucker like I was.
