To me those pics look blury on the edges.  Do you need to upgrade to an SLR to get around that?  Not sure if you guys see the same thing or not but the flowers are not crisp and look blury and so does the pine trees on the left side of the screen on the top pic.

The flowers have some blurry edges and the trees I cannot tell...This could be due to the fact that I used the digital zoom on both photos....Now  that I am aware of this, I will take a picture using no zoom, optical zoom and digital zoom so I can compare the quality...

I do not understand all the zoom stuff and what it does to pics.  Can you explain all of that?  Whats the difference between optical and digtal and the effects it has on a pic?

Hello Nube...Here is a quick explanation with a link if you want to check it out...

http://www.photoxels.com/digital-photography-tutorials/optical-digital-zoom/ ...For our purpose, digital zoom is not really zoom, in the strictest definition of the term. What digital zoom does is enlarge a portion of the image, thus ‘simulating’ optical zoom. In other words, the camera crops a portion of the image and then enlarges it back to size. In so doing, you lose image quality. If you’ve been regularly using digital zoom and wondered why your pictures did not look that great, now you know.

Thanks, I will read up on it a bit.  From what I hear it is good to have a high optical zoom on it so that makes sense.

Often the "blur" is by definition "out-of-focus" which can actually be done on purpose to accentuate the subject of the photo. It's a function of the aperture. With a smaller aperture (larger F-stop number) there is a larger field-of-focus. Conversely with a larger aperture setting (smaller F-stop number) there is a narrower field of focus. Distance to subject also plays a role. As an example here is a picture of the face of a fox:

The desired effect was to have only the eyes in focus and as you will notice there is only about a 1/2 inch plane of the subject that is in focus. Here is a good site to help learn the basic concepts of how to manipulate a camera and learn to take it off automatic, and TAKE CHARGE!

I have been kind of partial to the results I've seen from Panasonic/Lumix in the Point and Shoot category.

x2

I was also looking for a small, tuff camera that still takes nice photos last year, nube. I ended up with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 (https://panasonic.ca/english/audiovideo/camerascamcorders/digitalstill/DMCTS2.asp) and have been very happy with it. Battery life is nothing short of phenomenal, at least in my experience with digital cameras.

The stats on it don't look all that bad.  It has some nice features as well.  Something to consider for sure.  Thanks

Ya, nube, it is a real nice little camera. The Leica lens, HD video, toughness, and waterproofness make for a nice package. I'm sure in Skinnydipper's hands it would even take great pictures! ::) ;D

I guess the one big thing is, it uses a battery pack and not AA batteries. However, in my experience with cordless tools/devices, Panasonic knows batteries like very few other companies... I have done 5+ day trips with one battery and had power to spare. Still need to get that spare battery ordered...

Best of luck with your shopping sir!

Nothing wrong with that one IMHO....Colors look good....Just remember; if you get really frustrated you can’t use the “I left the camera in the boat and it’s raining” excuse again…lol

I not really sure nube,it just reached out and said "Buy Me"..lol

But at $449 it was in my price range and it's a whole lot more camera than my old (and wet) Kodak easyshare. :)

Just can't seem to find the macro setting on it tho.... ???
