Camping Along the Old Conklin Road
« on: August 13, 2011, 06:32:04 PM »
I took my family and my Mom and Dad for a few days camping up the old Conklin sand road this week.  We did a little fishing in Goodwin and Steepbank lakes and some blueberry picking.  We random camped at a beautiful little un-named lake and had the entire place to ourselves.  It was a relaxing few days and the weather was absolutely perfect.  We saw many whitetails and a fat black bear in the blueberry patch.  Fishing was good as usual with a pike on almost every cast.  There are thousands of miles of trails in that country to explore.  I have been going up there for 25+ years now and never get tired of it.  Here a few pics:

You bet, Paul.  That is a darn nice little camp spot, isn't it.  A really cool thing about that place is the nighthawks that fly around camp just before dark.   The look like bats but they are birds.

havent been up there for a number of years. since the fire wiped out the lodge. used to go up there once in a while before that. we actually were on that road when they dragged the main lodge in with a CAT back in the early 1990's. if u every talked to the owners of the lodge and he mentioned a crazy guy and his family in a dodge caravan behind him on the road.... that was us.

did you fish waipu (spelling?) when u were up there?
