Cheap respect if you ask me.
« on: February 21, 2014, 06:42:43 PM »
As a mod here, I have mixed feelings about posting this but here goes.
First I want to say this, in no way is this thread meant to disrespect Robin, that is why I started a new thread to write my thoughts in. (Paul if you think it doesn't fit here, go ahead and remove it, I understand...)

I very seldom go over to the other site but tonight I did. I went over there because I was sure there would be a thread about Robin. I still have several friends on the site and I wanted to see what they wrote all with others. Most of the guys were very respectfull to Robin's passing and wrote good things about him. I was very glad to see that. Even the fellows Duff butted heads with had kind words to say. What I noticed to observe missing in Robins thread were the lack of posts from the management, but wait, yes there was a couple of posts from a moderator stating ( I will not quote it but) it goes something like this......
It informed the members that, out of respect for Robin and his love of the sport his ban had been lifted. I damn near puked.

Only my thoughts boys but I'm going to say them out loud... "If my time ever comes abruptly, please don't lift my ban in respect, I'll come back and haunt you mothers"

Respect is when you support something by physically running petitions and doing everything possible for the love and conservation of the sport.
Respect is when you buy a magazine for many years so the writers can promote THEIR best interests and hopefully ours, their readers.
Respect is joining your local FGA and working with other conservationists in the province you love.

Robin was all of these and love him or hate him he was a GREAT asset to the conservation and management of our natural resources. Did he deserve to get banned over there, I don't know and will not speculate, I wasn't there and he never told me what happened. This I will say, if that's what they call respect, I for one don't want any of it.

Cheap respect?

In my books that's an insult.

some of you are going to hate AO no matter what they do.  I think Rob M could set up a scholarship at RMH High in duffs name and you would hate it.   ::)

at any rate, duff was banned once due to a personal tiff with a past mod.  he appealed to a higher power and was allowed back.  mods walked out over it....no need to name them....we know who they were.  the last time he was banned was for posting a wildly racist joke aimed at natives. it was blatant and his ban was deserved in my opinion, if for no other reason than it appeared to be a test directly aimed at another mod....yes a native one.

as for lifting the ban, im not sure I agree.  ive never understood how dying changes the actions a person committed when alive? I think I prefer avb3's idea of eternal member status.  I do agree with some sort of honorable mention on this or that or any other forum he was a part of.

as for Robin himself.....rest in peace feller.  im not positive how old he was, but im guessing mid 60s?  that's just too young in my mind, but sometimes it happens.  condolences to the McDonald family.

A friend of his told me today he didn't think he'd hit 60 yet, and that his wife was younger by a few years. Way too young.

He worked with him for ten years in Rocky and figured he was late 50's. I'd called to let him know but he'd already heard yesterday. He said he was waiting for the bus to go to the AFGA conference. I don't know who let him know.

This might sound cruel and please forgive me if it does but he went the way I want to go..

Quick and without warning...or lingering in a hospital bed.. :(

Totally agree Sonny, although not that young. I'm up at my parent's place in Olds to help get papers filled out to get my dad into long term care. It's horrible seeing the strongest man I've ever known be as bad as he is right now, and he's really not that old, 76 :( He hates it too.

Bonnie it sad to see the folks we love go down hill like that and end up in a nursing home. I feel your pain. I guess we can only be gratefull they lived too, that ripe old age, as we have seen here in Robins case, some don't get that opportunity.
Cherish each and everyday and live it to the fullest....

I just shrugged the AO thing off as a what ever.

I think I read some where that Duffy was 63. Way to young !

Think this is best left alone people at the end of the day it's about Duffy and nothing else, call it what you will it's a simple gesture no matter what motivated it.
