Edmonton Boat & Sportsman Show.
« on: March 15, 2015, 07:59:05 AM »
Was at the show on Friday we figured we would check it out as it's been about 4 years since we have went. Got to tell you I was a little disappointed. Not sure if it's just me but it seemed to be rather small compared to a few years ago. Quite a few boats,, some decent boats for fishing, not a lot I was interested in for the west coast but quite a few for our lakes. Of course a whack of the noise maker boats,, I get pissed old just looking at those boats cause I know all there good for is disturbing the peace and quiet on the water. Didn't seem to be as many booths for the lodges and charter boys which struck me as odd. Bought the grand daughter a little quad for Easter. Just one of those Chinese units, seems to be not bad, should last a little 4 year old girl a couple years.. Other than that just the same old same old. Might not go bak for another 4 years now..

Don't discount those chinese quads;  a few yrs ago I bought two little ones for getting wife's and my 50 yr old butt's down the cutline to where we could start walking.
I did my research, the one's we bought from toys4boys in Cal. had reverse engineered honda 50cc (49) engine's.  Could use honda parts if you wanted.  When we bought the argo's I sold them to a relative for his grandkids and they're still running strong.
Lose the security system that's on it though, even the dealer told me they're a source of problems.

Take a close look at it, ours came in crates and were very roughly put together.  (the parts that were assembled)  Don't remember specifics but a couple hrs with a few tools to make things fit properly, etc were required.

Have two of the 100.00 genny's.  The first one I bought off ebay from an importer in Van when we were racing dirttrack, figuring if it made the season we'd have our money's worth.  It's still running, and that was awhile ago.  Runs the little freezer for our moosemeat now.  (damndest thing, there's no rod bearing, it's a sealed bearing of all things!!!  go figure)
I bought the newer version from Cal. as a backup ('cause I keep thinking the first one's gonna die with that sealed rod bearing), it's a piece of crap.

Longwinded but pretty sure your granddaughter will get lot's of grins out of that quad.

I digress but I'm on my third rye as I'm bored, here's my fav. racing pic, my car's the green one  (one fast f'n car, built it frame up, eventually rolled it 8 times, 4 in the air, but that's another story):

Here's my last racecar:

If you look you'll notice the paintscheme's;  wifes in the back, son's in 5th.  Son won that race, wife came in 5th;  wife won the track championship that year:

This pic was shortly before son headed overseas.  Wife's beside son, I'm under son's streetstock (yes, it's a 67 chevelle, sorry, they make good streetstocks ):

Sorry to digress Walleyes but mentioning the cheap genny made me think of it and I'm on my third rye and marshall tucker's playing.  :)

I haven't been there for probably 15 yrs.  Like Walleyes, I do not have a particular fondness for the "noisemakers".  They sure screw up what could be a very peaceful time out on the water with the family.  I guess the dealers now showcase what sells to a particular demographic.  Since what was once a complete outdoor equipment show has diverged.  For better or worse?
