Fire at Slave Lake
« on: May 15, 2011, 02:25:15 PM »
Well my dad just got evacuated from his house, he lives on the lake in Wagner. The wind sure isn't helping matters, hopefully things die down, man they sure had the share of fire issues up there over the past few years. I used to hunt that South Mitsue area religiously and took some pretty nice whitetails and mule deer out of there, after the big burns through there I quit going, although I hear there's some big deer in those burned out areas now. After the burn some of the areas they logged were huge, looked like prairie country. Let's hope there isn't too much damage up there my dad has a lot invested in his acreage there as do a lot of people along the lake there.

This wind has not helped.  We have been fighting some mean grass fires in the city here lately and I am glad I am on days off now. ;D

Hope the best for the people there. It would be sad to have a nice place and have it wiped out..

It's burning hard photo from my dad of the Zoo on fire. Apparently half the town is now on fire.

Has to be hard for the people who are involved. Sounds like it's pretty bad up there. With the wind we've had around here, it has dried out real fast. There was a small grass fire north of town last week, fire dept had it under control pretty fast. Some dumbass threw a cig out of their window going down the range road.

Sounds very grim in Slave Lake now.  I heard that 30 % of the town is burnt, including the hospital and the RCMP detachment.  I hope everyone is safe though.  Apparently, a power line blew down and started one of the fires south of town.  It sounds like many people are being called to the emergency now.  Nube is on his way.  Very bad situation up there now.
I think I see a rip in the social fabric, Brother can you spare some ammo?

A good friend of mine lost everything on his property out at Canyon Creek.  House and shop were gone, and his boat was a smoldering pile of fiberglass.  They have been busting their asses out at his dads trying to do all they can to save it from going up in smoke.  I have heard that other people I know also may have lost homes, and this situation is a massive disaster.  My thoughts and prayers go out to them, and to everyone battling this massive blaze.

Found out the Aunts house is gone. Its in the arial veiw they have shown on TV. It was located on the south side of the RCMP building.
Pretty sad situation for everyone. She isnt to upset about the house and such just the pictures and the two cats that were in the house.
Was pretty amazing sitting there watching this all brew and transpire. One fire came from the south west and a second from the south east.
If I wouldnt have seen the winds it would be tough to understand the situation and how things changed so fast. It was pretty amazing to see first hand.
We snuck through a few back trails and lease roads to get home via Hwy 2 after it was closed as we would have had to went way north to get through. We had a cop at a road block baffled when we pulled up. He couldnt beleive we came through until we explined our route.
Hope in the end no one is injured or worse and my families prayers go out to every one there.
