Fort McMurray Accidental Exposure to Pesticide
« on: February 26, 2015, 07:44:33 PM »
I'm sure that everyone has heard about this one.... the mom.... 5 children... one since deceased and an "accidental" exposure to a "pesticide"

I was just following up on this and the fumigant in question was Phosphene.

As it happens I hold several licenses including one that alllows me to work with that and any other fumigant licensed in Canada.

All I can say is... WOW!!

I have no doubt that the mom had no idea what she was doing or how dangerous it was but someone did.

Phophene is a controlled substance and for good reason.

Aside from the toxic effects it is a fast gas that can pass through things like concrete.
The pellets are highly reactive to water and can pose a fire hazard.

Its common enough.... the food industry uses it quite often in things like grain silos.

The thing I don't understand is this.... are the RCMP continueing to investigate because whoever distributed that stuff or gave it to her should be hung by their toes and beated with barbed wire.
The source should be easyenough to locate because lets face it... they don't sell this stuff at the local garden centre.

Had she had more of it.... she could have killled them all and some of her neighbours as well.

Unbelievable.

This is a sad situation I know that. But one has to wonder what the heck that women was doing with such a product. It's hard to believe it's even legal to have in its raw form is its this potent. In an article I read it states the product is from Pakistan I beleive, does that mean it was shipped to her from there or they brought it with them ?? And another question,, are we sure that was its intended use in the end,, if you know what I mean.

Commercially it is used to kill insects in silos'.
It dissipates quickly and leaves only a trace of ash behind so it can be used in silos that contain grain.

But only a guy with a fumigation ticket should be able to get that and it should be accounted for quite closely.

I think the answer here is... Pakisatan.

She got a care package from home and went to work.

Good Gawd..... makes you wonder what else might be out there for people to create accidental havoc with.

What a shame when you consider that a simple heat treatment was probably all that was needed to take of the problem... I am assuming bedbugs here.

How does stuff like this get through customs,,, like really.

Have you seen the latest,, a family spokesman has stepped forward and stated that the kids were taken to hospital a day or two before with symptoms and released then taken back. So this means these people aren't smart enough to realize what they were handling or were scared to say what they were using because they didn't want to get in trouble. Had they been honest in the first place about what was happening I am sure this could have been avoided.  Either way the blame game has started with them and I garuntee you a law suit against Alberta a health is coming. I am sure a lawer is on it now. They will sue for millions and live happly ever after in our country. The Pakistany dream this is..

Ever watch those border security shows?
The stuff people try to bring here is beyond belief.... especially from asian countries and by all accounts... they only catch a fraction of em.

I doubt that they'll get far with a lawsuit...
Medicine isn't an exact science...its basically best (educated) guess and the doctor would have had to rely upon Mom to provide him accurate information and being fumigated in your home by your parent with a controlled substance would be highly unusual and not on anyones radar.

Chances are nobody clued in that it was environmental until all of a sudden everyone was sick and they probably still didn't have any idea why until someone checked the place out or fessed up and admitted that they got "some good stuff" from home to take care of bugs.

Every adult in that home should have their head examined.

Apparently these people smuggled the substance into Canada on their return from overseas, so only they are to blame for this chemical ending up in the apartment complex. What happened is terrible, but their actions could have affected many other people in the apartment complex.

So they obviously knew it was not allowed as they would have like you said smuggled it in.

It's sad for sure that a child had to pay with its life for them to learn.
