Freedom to roam(light went off)
« on: March 16, 2016, 08:06:59 PM »
Well came home and saddle up the horse today, took a ride around my area, and it occurred to me, the country's getting tight. The backyard I use to roam in is now full of fences, houses, no trespassing, and so on. Now I understand and accept that things have changed and people have to protect there spot in life, so that's not what I'm talking about here. It's just after all the years of riding, and roaming my farmland area , tonight was the first time it hit me, dam when did all these people get here. Not beating anybody up for moving to the country, just a observation and I'm noticed.

Yup, way too damn many people.  Worst thing they did was put up street signs.  Have a buddy lives SE of Carsland;  since they put up street signs it's like it's, "safe" for the generational city folks to be there now.........and on weekends its like a friggin' parade past his place.

He actually get's a non stop assault on summer weekends of city people wanting to, "look in the buildings for antiques".  Understand this is a well kept working farm and not near pavement.

The push is always for, "more", because the only way the economy can expand exponentially is to have, "more" people because there has to be, "more".

Don't know what the hell was wrong with having things good.  "More" isn't always better.

My Father loved the outdoors and I was fortunate to have spent my childhood fishing and hunting. We weren't farmers so we were never tied down to the farm my father was a logger his entire life so our summers were not busy. We spent our weekends chasing walleye and Perch on lakes around the La Biche area, lakes that have only been discovered by the masses the last 20 years. We were on them 40 - 45 years ago. It's just crazy the amount of pressure these lakes get now days,, it's heart breaking it really is.

Although I hope prosperity for everyone at what cost does it come at. I would like this province to slow down a bunch. I hope it takes years for the price of oil to recover to the point it drives the economy the way it did. A nice steady flow would be nice. I mean we only need it half as busy as it was to keep our families busy, let those that are just here to rape and pillage and leave leave now. We need to put the brakes on here for a bit, let Mother Nature heal up some and take some land back.

My biggest gripe here in west central is roads.

Way to many oil/gas lease roads being put in....grumble. >:(

I used to hike hike hike into some good hunting country and now some dufus from the city can drive there with a used Dodge Neon with bald tires.. >:(

Remember when... newer people to Alberta get upset when I say this, and then make a big deal out of us" red necks" taking pride in the place we where born and raised. But yet it's ok to talk about back home, and fly the flags, and stickers in the back windows. Well this is back home to us, and I guarantee that if the changes that happen here happen back home, they wouldn't be to happy neither. Hey Walleyes remember Pinehurst and Elinor lake. I use to walk into Elinor with a canoe and fish. It's a dame city in there now. And sonny there's a road to everywhere now with no dead ends to hide. I guess that's my rant for this week.
