Grizzly verses Rick Cross

First of all I have to say that the world lost a great man recently.I didn't know him but from what I've read he was someone to be admired.

That said....What should become of the bear that killed him?

Some say that the bear was only doing what bears do..in other words let it live.

Others say...once a taste of blood and they have no fear of man, hence they should be put down.

I'm on the fence with maybe leaning to put the bear down before someone else get's hurt or worse.

Thoughts?

RIP Rick..

They already gave the bear a pass Sonny. I don't necessarily agree with it, but that's the SRD's decision.

I'll bet they considered the situation around the unfortunate incident very carefully.
The situation could have dictated that the bear acted on pure instinct and not learned behavior.
We don't know the exact details very well so pretty hard to speculate anymore.

Again, RIP Rick.
I think I see a rip in the social fabric, Brother can you spare some ammo?

Yah not sure about this decision myself. How will they know if this is an aggressive bear,, the next time it does something similar. And how do they know the exact details as to what happened. They can speculate but unfortunately the only one that knows is past.

It's a darn bear man why take a chance,, get rid of it.

I am not one for randomly killing everything and practice conservation but…

We don’t need human emotions on this particular bear it should be destroyed.

Well guys, I'm for letting the bear live. The authorities have deemed this attack to be non-predatory. Unfortunately Mr. Cross must have gotten to close to her cub, or kill, or both. The bear did get a free pass and lets hope we never hear of this bear in the news again. I do hope they collared it.

I would vote to put it down.  If it attacks and kills another person after learning from this incident, then SRD heads should roll.  why take the chance.

I think they made the wrong decision to let the bear and it's cubs live and it is a definate sign of the times.  The bear killed a human and maybe it would never happen again, but maybe is not good enough.  I'm sure a lot of time was spent deliberating on the bears future and in the end whoever had that final tough decision to make failed.  I'm sure most of us don't like the idea of killing a bear for being a bear but in the end what's right is right as far as I'm concerned.  Weakness and avoiding the backlash from those that have zero actual connection to the wilderness that isn't mixed with ashphalt is what happened here.
