Funny, just checked and BB416 has been keeping an eye on my account. They must be getting worried over there. To be honest I haven't even looked at that site since I found out about this one, there isn't nearly as much bickering on this site, it's alot nicer.

In all fairness BB416 (Jeff ) is really an awesome guy. I think he gets alot of outside pressure sometimes from people.

As far as the bickering on here, only time will tell, but one thing is for certain. Without tweddle dee and tweddle dumb on here, i feel time will be awhile !
Haha. Tweedle dee and twiddle dumb, now that deserves an applaud  :)

I wasn't saying anything in particular about BB416, I was just surprised to see that one of the mods had been checking my page. I've been a member on that forum since '07 and have only posted 55 times, I know a few people from the site personally, but haven't had the pleasure to meet many of them.

I used to be active on a car forum and when it came out that the owner was reading PM's the board fell apart and friendships forged over ten years fell apart.  I never post anything in a PM that I would be embarrassed to have everyone see.  Word to the wise about all internet forums.

I think eveyone there (AO) knows by noiw any way. I haven't been banned for pming about this board. Maybe they don't like me as much as Nube!

Actually, not many people know about it. Word is spreading pretty quick. Maybe it spread more through hunting but as far as fishing. It seems that barely anyone knows about it. I have been spreading the word to those who I know off the forum it will take some time but it will get around. I was thinking about creating a troll account and posting it and seeing just how long it lasts. lol maybe we could take bets.

I wouldn't call it stooping low by spreading the word around.  Obviously the way things are if you get caught on AO doing it you will get punted and that is not right or fair.  I was trying to open another account to do it through PM's as I wanted to still be a part of AO as well but they had different plans for me.  Still amazes me that they could be so ticked at me from one little blow up I had with them through PM's that they would ban a guy for life.

Relic, I am certain anything you posted there about Alberta Sportsman would be instantly deleted and the account banned, along with your regular account there. It would be pretty pointless. As we all know posting anything there that might affect sponsorship is prohibited.

In fact I was denied putting an ad for Alberta Sportsman in the hunting regulations, which is published by the same group. Initially I was offered a pricing schedule and placement options, when they found out it was for Alberta Sportsman I received a 1 line email saying "Sorry, it's full". After an email exchange with the individual who manages the advertising I made a simple request to advertise in all hunting and fishing regulations moving forward and if I could receive all pricing and placement information. That request was never replied to.

Another classy move on their part. ::)

Muskeg I think you took me the wrong way. I am not stopping to any level. I am only promoting this forum. The fact that they feel they have to monitor PMs for people talking about another forum is pathetic. I didnt actually do it and It was more of a joke. But If i were to do it, I dont see how that would be committing an act against freedom and enlightenment. If anything it would be promoting the revolution

Wow.

I knew Rob was a small man, but I had no idea just how small he was.  It's really disconcerting to me that he has that much power over what are provincial government publications that in large part paid for by the sportsmen of AB, and at the very least, paid for by we the taxpayer.   Refusing you advertising space in his magazine is one thing, that's his perogative, same goes for the AO forum, it just shows how insecure he is.  Denying access to the hunting regs is a whole other level though, and shows unbelievable arrogance.  I know he thinks he's the "voice of AB outdoorsmen", but he's just a publisher with a gravy train contract and an overinflated ego.  It's just plain wrong, and I intend to make a few inquiries as to how things have got to that point.

At any rate, I could rant on forever on this topic.  I hope you don't take no for an answer on this, and I for one would be willing to contribute funds toward advertising and promoting this forum.

Guys you have to move on and get over the fixation on AO. If anyone were to find this board first their next stop would be AO. There are so many posts about Rob and AO it is an ongoing ad for them.
As far as the ad goes we all have jobs and our companies can decide who they work for. Not many would advertise their competition in the foyer of the company office. Mine sure as hell wouldn't. This is no different. Say all you want that As isn't competition for AO, it is. It is clear in everyone's mind as well by the very posts here where people are trying to lure people over from AO to the "darkside", blah blah blah.
This place will have to stand on its own, it isn't going to survive by whining incessantly about Rob and AO. If Rob controls one piece of the media find another to spend your money with.
Fellas I hope I haven't hurt any feelings but I'm just calling it the way I see it.

I agree with Muskeg guys. This place is a separate, independent community and will stand on it's own merit. I am already channeling the ad dollars elsewhere.

Anyhoo looks like were giving out $100 gift card maybe today ;D

More prizes to come after that!

Right. I understand your point. But I think your being a bit aggressive in your stance regarding this forum. But what Paul has said from the start is that he doesn't see it as a competition. There is always going to be tons of options for people out there. Infact, I remember reading a post from Paul saying that the more places like AO and AS out there the better because it is bringing more people into the outdoors and into the sports. And that is a fantastic attitude to have. In addition to that personally I think the more places the better because these places educate the people engaging these sports. I know when I first joined my first forum that I learned ALOT about how to properly handle fish or about the effects of minor things to an ecosystem and how a angler must consider multiple aspects of his effect on the environment around him. And along the way I also became a better angler and have a greater appreciation for the sport. This board has no sponsors, there for we cannot really say that anyone else on the web is competition. They are only a fellow outdoorsmen. And I think that is one of the greatest things about this forum.

That said I can understand why AO does not want threads about other forums on their site. They are sponsored and they want to maintain their client base. However, I don't think it is right that they monitor PMs. And if Rob wants to have a stick up his ass regarding advertising in magazines...... I can understand not in the the AO magazine. And I can also understand why the regs might not do it because of its ties to AO but there still is a proper way to conduct business.

All in all. I think this forum will hold its own and will be a success. I think we need to stop being fixated on what everyone else is doing because in the end it really doesn't matter.

I don't think it is right that they monitor PMs

I talked about this earlier and I will honestly say that I don't think that's the case. What is simpler is checking IP addresses of people that were banned against new user registrations. That being said I don't know that for sure, I just don't think that's happening.

Like Paul said they tracked you through your IP address. Thats how they track multiple accounts. Then the ban hammer falls. again.
They don't have access to your pm's as far as I know, or they could'n call them private messages.
Now if you were smart you could have gone to a library and created an account and they wouldn't have picked up on the duplicate IP addy. Just sayin!

That's BS, maybe a few letters to the minister is in order. Any organization related to and not discriminating against Alberta's outdoor heritage should have the opportunity to advertise in the regs. It's our tax dollars that publish them...
