Hello
« on: December 07, 2016, 11:43:13 AM »
Hello all, long time lurker   :o. Finally decided to join. I also hang on that other site but be warned, almost 6000 posts, not one warning, infraction or suspension. No nasty PM's sent my way. I'm a pretty boring poster :) If i post an opinion, it's just that, mine. I could care less to argue over it for infinity. And i won't do that either. It's the interwebb, who needs that stress.

Real nice to see all the old poster names here and I truly enjoy the posts i have read. I am truly happy when out in the woods camping, fishing, hunting, sledding or just scouting. Feel real couped up if i can't get out. Wall tent moose camp is one of my favorite things to do. Nothing quite like a craklin wood stove while you sleep 15 km's away from any road.

Been a few crappy years in the wmu i hunt, long, deep snow winters, wolves and years of supplemental tags have killed a once beauty zone for deer. So this year was about hitting old hunting haunts and see how they are doing kinda year. Most of them out west that me and my 18 yr old hit, were similar. Poor sign but we did find one zone in the last 2 days of hunting that showed real promise and sign so it will be sled scouted a bit more once we get enough snow. Nice to hunt crown land where there is actually tracks of the critters your chasing. We did donate some serious $$$ to conservation this year with all the general tags we bought plus Edson and Whitecourt got our gas and food $$$$ :)

The goal the last few years has been to get my son his first big game harvest. He has had some chances but he either wanted to wait for a bigger buck(little spiker's is all we seen) or the ones he wanted out smarted us in cut blocks. He has partnered on all my moose tags but that said zone is hurting on the moose side too. I have an 80 yr old dad who still joins us, on those days it's mostly road hunting which is fine with me, 3 generations of men in one truck makes some good memories. My most recent harvest was an outside of the base bull elk last Nov/Dec and boy are they tasty. My first elk too. Been pretty much a crown land moose and deer hunter all my life so hunting elk in the wide open prairie was a fast learning curve but with the help of some fine people, I was able to connect with my son by my side. Not a monster by any means but a unique rack.

Once i figure out how to post a pic, i will. I was born pre computers and really don't like them hahaha, my brain aint wired to figure them out.

Looking forward to start sledding and Ice fishing soon.

Sooner is a great guy and is a welcome addition.  Glad to see you here buddy sorry the trip with your son didn't result in a deer but sounds like you got to see some nice land.
