Hi, just joined the forum. Im from Olds AB. In general Im hoping to open my own sportsman shop in 2014. I am a jack of all trades, master of none, but ive been a retail manager for the better part of 20 years, and I love the outdoors, so time to start my own business.

Rocky had one outdoor store until recently when it closed down. CT handles some stuff but not much. We have to drive to Caroline or RedDeer for a guns and huntin stuff now. (though I just realized that the "new and used" store in Eckville carries a lot of outdoor equip. but not much for guns)
At one time we had 2 sporting goods and a hardware store that carried the good toys. Now there is a bit of a void.

I found it difficult to support the store that was left in rocky but I did as much as I could. I have thought about starting another store but with red deer so close and Reggie in Caroline and a future WSS in red deer I don't think it's feasible in Rocky.
To the op my one suggestion is make sure products are available things are tight right now with suppliers. hornady has canceled over 100 stlye of bullets to keep up with hi demand. On the same note rocky has 20k people and no sporting goods store just a thought.
