Hi Folks
« on: May 11, 2013, 08:35:14 AM »
Joined here a couple weeks back but just been reading so far, Im a sask farm kid, was in the militia 5 yrs, lived in lower mainland for 8 yrs, been in Calgary area since 2002, have an acreage about 40 minutes NE of the city. Hunted mostly deer but have been on a few moose and bear hunts in northern BC, seem to collect more firearms than I use, own 1 handgun but never use it, its an old .22 long revolver that came from my Pop. I only kill what I intend to eat, except for gophers, I got alot of them. Bought my first bow last year, not too good with it yet but getting better. Metal fabricator for near 30 yrs. Wife doesnt hunt but she's pretty good with a shotgun, I insisted on that before I would take her along on bear hunts. Were both in that 50+ catagory now. My spelling sucks and usually forget to preview my posts, bare with me ;)

Nice to have you aboard, you sound like the kind of hunter we are too :) (Well, except I kill all rodent and varmit lol).

thx much,

Near neighbors perhaps Huntress? were close to Irricana, only been here a yr and a half but haven't seen a wt, lots of mulies tho, I dont shoot the other critters around because Im too lazy to destroy the carcasses and if theres a dead animal within a mile my newfy mutt will politely deliver it to the house, must be some retreiver in him lol.

Weve been thru the Hinton area many times traveling the #16 but thats all weve seen of it, never been any further north in ab but would like to eventually, seen alot of nth sask and bc but nothing in the middle. I would guess theres some good elk hunting up there? Best eating critter on the planet imo.

Must agree 100% with you about Elk, it sure is the finest eating critter I've ever tasted!

Yes, I'm East of hwy 9 about 12km. I'm about 20km from Irricana. I usually see the wt's east of the mulie's. Seen lots of mulie's near hwy 9. And yeah I here ya about dead critter disposal...lol but sounds like you have a good dog Luckily I have a neighbour who's a farrier and he just let's me throw deads in his carcass pile out back. He's shot 21 next door in the time I've shot 1 lol. Anyhoo!
