How long would canned beer last?
« on: June 25, 2016, 10:31:13 PM »
No I'm not stocking an underground survivalist bunker, however if I did some beer would be on the list. 8)

But say you put a case (cans) of beer in your closet/pantry or whatever how long would it stay good?

One year?
Three years?
Five years?

Keep in mind that it would be stored in a cool dark place and would be undisturbed.

Any thoughts?

Six months. You start to notice floculents (aka: flloaties and cooties)  developing and creating a sediment at the bottom of the bottle.  In central Europe this " yeast yuk" is considered to be a little meal after drinking your beer.  Not for this cowboy.

Beer is made from three components and water. Yeast, hops, and malt.   You can make some home made hooch to get blasted on in five days with these components. What is even better is the drinking water from Hinton, Jasper and Grande Cache makes some of the best home brew in the world.

And since this is an outdoors forum:

What about bottled beer kept in a cold fridge?
I have some going on two years old the big drinker that I am these days.
Should probably just toss em I suppose but that would be alcohol abuse.

i would think that bottles would help the beer last longer as well. Theres gotta be a reason they age wine in bottles vs cans.

I'd keep it longer than 6 months. That's the stuff you feed to the in-laws. Saves your good beer, and with any luck they don't come back.
