Husky Pipeline Spill.

Crappy this stuff has to happen it really is but as man has to live on this earth we will leave a mark its inevitable.
Husky is no fly by night outfit they will do what it takes to get it cleaned up and make it right. No expense spared I am confident on that.
The CBC is having a field day with this one. The headlines read 3 oil soaked birds found near oil spill. It states how the helper can see the struggling in the poor animals eyes. Man,, wring the fricken things neck and throw it in the burn pile,, no more struggling !! How many dead birds were found under the windmills by Drumheller this morning, no mention of those on the news is there. I hate how they have to use the metric table when writing it as well. It's 1600 gallons which in the scheme of things is not that much but the headlines read 200,000 litres. Poor soccer mom in Vancouver has no idea what that is all she sees is 200,000 and thats bad. Like the wife said they will, wash the birds off using Dawn dish soap they know it's safe because they put it in Beagles eyes to see if they go blind. Funny how that's alright.

Still safer than rail. They could have just said 200m3. Surprised they never reported it as 200000000 milliliters.

No Avian botulism this year? Hello SRD. Anyone at the PMA making study skins of rare species? You can email uncle greylynx. He has never turned anyone in. And never will.
Anyways, my favourite grayling stream in the boreal forest country was hit by an oil spill. I was screaming flippin mad. Mad until I talked to the crew chief and engineer working on the spill. They told me they would restore that stream damage to previous or better shape. I thought these two guys were full of .... Long story short. My delicate little muskeg grayling stream has been restored to normal.

I'm no math wiz but Lloyd radio is reporting 250,000L spilled , that's actually about 54,000 IMP gallons , or over 40 some tri axle trailer loads . So it's a bit of a big deal that and it took them 14 hrs to figure out the had a leak.
As far as Husky being a stand up company , only CNRL is cheaper and more belligerent . I've seen corners cut all the time with these guys and those were in boom times , I can't imagine the skimping going on these days .
Sure glad I'm not working for either of those company's anymore.
Hopefully environment Canada spanks these guys good .

Still in the big sceem of things 50,000 is not huge, again bad no doubt but not huge. Funny I spent quite a few years with Husky on the drilling side and found them to be an awesome outfit to work for. But who knows times change directors change. Not to sure what a huge fine does for anyone, it doesn't stop the leak from happening, it doesn't clean it up it doesn't take away the fact it heppened. If there was negalgence on the companies behalf, if they knowingly did something wrong than yes punish them. If this was an incident beyond anyone's control then what's the point. Fine someone because the ground shifted do to the heavy rains we have had in the area and the bank moved and broke their pipeline ?? Absolutely no point in it. But I can see our Commie government making a statement about this, drive another nail in the coffin of a major employer in the province, why not who needs industry right. We have taxes to run in. Oh wait no companies paying taxes, no taxes, no that's not how it works, the shit grows on tress.

Everyone should know " You have to break a few eggs to make an omelet " .
That omelet is moving crude , there is no 100% safe way to move this stuff .
If it breaches the line it shouldn't be able to get into one of our major waterways
And in this day and age , instant reporting ,F ... get a bigger bell .
Regardless of company mission statement and reputation, some rookie
Mistakes were made . Seems to me a general overview of this industry
Would be the nickel dimeing of the public seems to be unending .
Again our governments are just as much to blame for these fiascos.
What govt agency oversees the safety of the oil industry , Dept of Indian
Affairs , I think so . ( just a little levity)
