If you could?
« on: June 21, 2012, 03:25:24 PM »
If you had the chance to open and outdoors Store (Archery, Hunting, Fishing etc) What would you call it?  Things in the area are: Chief Mountain, Milk River Ridge, St. Marys Dam / River

There's always niche markets to develop.  Plus there's this thing called the internet.  Not to mention convenience.
Call it whatever you want, just don't make the name too long (everyone does that with their first venture.  Trust me, no matter how cool it sounds, picture yourself writing it out a million times ten years from now.   ;)  )  Also don't name it after yourself.  If you need to call it by a name, call it, "Bob's ............or something like that, then pretend to just work there, "Bob" being the mysterious absentee globe trotting owner.   ;D

In any case, best of luck.  There's ample opportunity, just look at your competition and instead of trying to compete with them for the same dollar, chase the dollars they aren't.  That's the secret to small business success.  And you can take that advice to the bank.   8)

I don't know what you would call it but really I wouldn't bother unless you are going to actually be able to get what the two big stores can't get and beat there prices so people buy from you instead of them.  Either way good luck with back door sports
.
Whow, talk about positive attitude and encouragement. Besides, you didn't even attempt to answer the question.

I never was any good at business names but I'm thinking it shouyld be something catchy. G'luck on your venture!

We do not have the 2 big ones close to us and the 3rd is not much help either.  The only Local Archery shop has no competition and limited product.  I do not live in the city, but most folks are driving by to go fishing and or Coming out here for our great hunting.   I have always had a dream to open a place.  it is always good to have a dream, cause if you don't what is the point.  I spent most of my life working outside and working with animals. I got sick and had to find a new line of work, and have been stuck in an office with  no windows for 10 years. Dreaming of something better is what keeps me going.

There certainly is a niche for small stores. There are many of them popping up across the province and doing quite well. People are getting tired of dealing with the morons at the big box outletts and are looking for the small personal touch. Just be fare with people and they will be fare with you.

How bout "Chief Mountain Supplies" kind of an old school aproach most small town people still apreciate.

I disagree with Justin and agree with Walleyes. Clothing is always better in the big box stores though, way more selection.

I feel there is still opportunity for some of the smaller market areas, competing can be tough though.

If I was to open a store, what would I call it? I tell you what the first guy that gets it right wins a new Outfitter Series Knifes by Gerber, the Folding Hunter.

Why do you disagree? I work at WSS and trust me if you can get all of the stuff they can't and won't bring in you will be styling. If not what makes you different then them? I just don't want to see someone waste money. I would love to see a small town store do really well as I hate all the big sport stores other than sometimes you get smokin deals do to buying power but normally they gowdge you on everything cause places like russell sports closed down.  To the op I really do wish you luck if you decide to open the store.

Thanks Justin.  If I do it will be called "Outdoor Addiction"  one of the things I would want to offer is workshops.  anything from Outdoor Photography to Geocaching and every thing in between.  Give other Hunters and Anglers a chance to pass thier skills along.

Ya congrats again Joe.!! Way to go on the wind, good things happen to good people.

Desdain that has always been my Dream job as well. I think i would have to win the lotto first ,fill the store with inventory, and just enjoy talking about The Great outdoors with people coming through the doors all day long. I would also like to be able to support Youth hunts for those that dont get the chance to go out or exposed to hunting.
