Karma Abuse
« on: May 16, 2011, 09:03:13 PM »
Now it is my turn to get on the soap box and vent...The few days that I’ve been here I have watched people abuse the Karma applaud and smite...Yes there has been the jokes between friends but within 1 week that this forum has been open there is blatant abuse happening...If some people think that the Administrators are going to ban a certain person because they keep hitting the smite think again...

The Administrators know about it because when I approached them on it, they knew and were watching it...If you think they don’t know who is doing it, you thought wrong because when online you leave a data trail...If you don’t believe me, look at your profile and select show stats...They have stats on all of us which are not posted...Still don’t believe me, look at the thread titled -$100 gift card reminder-Quote from the Administrator  “Just a reminder, to be eligible for the gift card you must have at least 1 post and anyone with more than 1 account isn't eligible, because there are a couple here”...

If you have an issue with a person don’t hide behind a false sense of security titled Karma address it or keep it to yourself...I will get off the soap box now...

Interesting post and I agree with your thoughts on the use of the Karma system.  I've seen the Karma numbers for some users take very drastic jumps within just a day or two - obviously somebody has it out for them and this isn't just joking around.

On the surface the Karma thing on the forum seems like a good idea, but as you've pointed out badback, it's also a system that's ripe for abuse.  Hopefully we can all use the system like responsible grown-ups (ha!) and it'll be something that will add to the forum, and it won't boil down to an online pissing contest to see who can get the most Karma or whatever the game happens to be.  They already changed the format...how long til it's removed if abused?
Just puttin' it out there...

Yes the Karma has an effect....A few days ago the Administors banned a member due to negative Karma...So if the administrator doesn't know that that the individual is receiving negative Karma and bans the person, a molehill becomes a mountain...

No he was not banned because of his Karma..........he was banned for being a jerk.

Just get rid of Karma altogether. We are smart enough who jerks are.

Ban Karma. Never did like him. LOL

Yup, don't need Karma to realize that that guy was on a mission to become the first to be banned.

You're doing it again lol.

As others have said, Karma had little or nothing to do with him being booted.

You have nothing to worry about as far as I can tell.  As for everyone else, I think the admin has a pretty good handle on things.

Badback has a valid point. The karma system shouldn't be used to smite someone every opportunity just because you can. If you like someones post give them some karma, if you don't or if someone's being a douche take some away.
