Legal question #2
« on: May 11, 2017, 09:24:42 PM »
So I went and bought a $5 wood cutting permit which is good for 30 days..yada yada yada...But..

Is it legal to cut wood from burn piles?

I know the wood belongs to logging companies but they are just going to burn it up anyway.

Some good campfire wood in those piles. ;)

I had a friend who had a job cutting the 3 1/2" tops off of logging trucks just before the mill site. He had the back of his truck full of wood when Forestry came by and made him dump it out. I'm not sure if he had a permit , probably not.

I can't see there being an issue Sonny. It's not like they burn it to serve much of a purpose other than the re seed and to clean up the tops. I would cut all you want and not worry about it. Lots of people in this neck of the woods use it, I've never heard of an issue.

Cut away, to hell with them. If by chance they come by and make you dump it, it's a good time to tell them what you think of the new world order. At least your voice gets heard.

I like your attitude. :)

Got one small load (Ranger lol) and hurt my back. :(

Maybe next days off I'll feel better and go for another load. ;)

I wouldn't worry to much about it.  Bought the wood cutting permit once and went to a "designated wood cutting area".  Seemed like a lot of work to get anything that was good considering the area had been picked over pretty hard.  Didn't bother with it again.  Started doing the same thing your doing and never a problem but haven't run into any "enforcement".  The last couple years we've just been running around to random campsites after may long and scooping up the leftovers.  Pretty easy on the chainsaw :).

How does that work nowadays with the permits?  Do you still have to go to a certain area?

Certain area? You bet..

They asked north or south of the Athabasca river.

I told them whatever..  ;)

But but if you cut to many trees down to the south how is that gonna affect the north?  You gotta know where you're cuttin Sonny, could put an imbalance in the CO2 distribution.  We gotta be careful about these things... ;D
