Mongo camp, or you and a buddy?

Sheepguide's thread about planning hunts got me thinking, are you more into the mongo camp with a bunch of people, or more you plus one, maybe 2 or 3 at the most?
Locally there's a few, "groups" that have hunted together for decades. Large groups. I can understand the attraction, the commraderie, etc. I was asked to participate a couple times over the years; I know I would have enjoyed it, but it's just not my hunting cup of tea.
Myself, I'd rather head deep into the bush or uphill with one other person. 2 or 3 at most, and ideally the 3 and 4 persons are kids.

we have 5 guys that have been hunting together for a long time...we always setup camp together but we usually always go our own ways unless its for smth like late season elk then we push bush for each other and whatnot... i cant stand tramping through the bush with more than another guy
i guess its kind of like a little reunion each year with some great buds doing what you love to do

What wildmeat said, no issue with 3 or 4 in camp, but everyone goes their way in the morning, usually with an evening discussion on plans so guys aren't in the same spots. That being said I have gone solo countless times, much to the chagrin of my wife, and have always found enjoyment in it. As long as I'm in the bush I'm happy.

I prefer myself plus one or two guys at most. Some animals and hunting conditions I far prefer hunting solo. For big trips such as to bC next year a few guys is nice as it can be alot of work. But all in all id say my tops for a group would be four as long as a person can hunt in a couple different directions.

Have hunted with small groups of 4 guys max in the past.
Since moving to Alberta I have hunted occasionally with my son but normally hunt solo as I dont know many people here.
Most of my hunts are day hunts anyway so I am not too far from home

It really doesn't matter to me as long as camp doesn't get to big. I like about 4 or 5 guys keeps the conversation alive. I have had all kinds of camps from 6 or 7 guys to 2 guys. Its all good. But I must say that a camp with 4 or 5 is the best. We have all kinds of room and we don't hunt together anyways just meet up in camp for lunch or in the evening after the hunt and talk and have a few laughs its all good. For the last few years its just been the oldest boy and I and last year the 3 of us, I loved the time with my boys no doubt about it and had some good conversation with my boys but I must say that after 5 days in camp with just 1 other guy the conversation can dry up a bit. This fall My old hunting partner ( the bro inlaw) and his son are coming back into camp with us this fall. I am really looking forward to it, getting back together with an old hunting partner and letting the cousins do some hunting togther, should be a really fun camp for all.

depends what im hunting. ive been in camps with 6 to 8 at times for bears or birds. for those, i dont care how many are there. i have very little interest in actually shooting bears myself, so i look at it as more of a camping trip. i get to ride my quad in the forest and have a few drinks around the fire with friends. havinng my gun there lets my brain think im hunting which makes it even more fun. birds are similar in that there is always plenty of action for everyone to have their fair share of fun.
things im serious about though.....i often like it alone or with one other person. sometimes its my buddy gary, lately it has been my son eric, and often its robin. i do have fun seeing the excitement in the kid and little lady, but when im looking to fill my own tags, i prefer to go it alone. i get down into the thick crap where the walking is tough at times and its darn near impossible to be quiet. having more people around hurts my chances. not to mention the times when i have to go hard running up and down hills trying to catch up to something. some of my partners are very limiting then. sheep are a little different though. the country they live in demands respect. something as simple as a twisted ankle can turn life threatening. there are some places that i prefer to have some backup, and im the same for them. i am very selective about who ill do that with.
