Moose hunt is over boys we got back last night. A successful hunt again and an awesome time had by all. Of course we got our tag filled early this year just because we had lots of time we didn't need it. We had 9 days to hunt and yes maybe we could have passed on the one we took but when it comes to moose meat we don't like taking chances. Decent amount of sign in our area this year looks like they are starting to recover from the Wolf epidemic we had in there 4 year ago, very little sign of them the last couple years and almost none this year except near the river.

We got into our camping hunting area Thursday afternoon and got camp set up, as has been the case the last 8 years in our little corner of heaven no one has been in there, as far as we can tell we are the only group to work the area for the last long while. Some road hunters from the local settlement but they don't get out of their vehicles so no harm done by them. We got camp set up and wood cut and water hauled and got out for a a quick scout for about a half hr. Friday morning we got out for a call in the morning and evening and were really encouraged by the sign we saw. As best we could tell we had 3 maybe 4 active bulls plus what ever smaller ones that would be running around in between. After our morning calling and evening calling we set up our game plan for the week ahead. Sat morning we set out and called in one of our spots, we called until 10:30 with no response. The boys decided to move areas I went back to camp and start to get things ready for lunch. I wasn't in camp a half hr and I heard a gun shot, I quickly jumped on my quad a went for a look. Sure enough about a mile and a half from camp there were the boys all smiles. They had moved down the line about a mile to an old lease we call at and had saw good sign on the day before. They parked the quads and walked in about a half mile. Jesse the oldest boy and the one with the tag this year, gave one call and heard the bull start to move towards him. It stopped but a cow called on a hill side on the other side of him and he said no sooner that cow called  the bull started to move again. It came out on the line 60 yards and one well placed 225 grain .338 bullet and the bull dropped in its tracks. Not the biggest bull by any means but one dandy meat bull.
So once again our little corner of the world produced a moose for us, it's been a good area and we enjoy it. We are already looking forward to next year as the sign we saw this year was very encouraging they are definetly on the come back from a couple years ago.

A few pics of our trip.
Camp this year with the two tent set up, small one for kitchen and big tent for bunk house.

Good deal!  Way to go boys.

Sure wish I had a moose tag this year.  Would of had one yesterday too but no luck in the draw.
Settled for a limit of chickens and a look at a dandy wt buck though.
Can't wait to get out in the wall tent for November.

Glad you had a good hunt with the boys Walleyes, and thanks for the pic's. Your camp set up is a mirror of how we do our's. Country looks dry compared to last fall, how was it? I have my antlerless tag for Nov. so getting excited about that. Not much luck on Elk through the rut, but still after them, hoping to stir up a small bull. (or big if we can).

Thx guys.

Yes Lever it is super dry up there, most ditches and drainage creeks were dried right up. Creeks and streams still had some flow but most slews were dried up.

WOW

I love those pictures of Hotel Walleyes in the Aspen Boreal Forest.

I really like your fresh water drinking jug with the pump on it.

Thanks for the pictures Walleyes.

Congrats to the hunters. I love the camp pics. Haven't been to my moose camp in a couple years. Not worth pulling a tag, numbers too low. Just be a camp out.

Thx gentleman.

Yes we should have stayed longer and enjoyed it a few more days. Did some scouting for next year, put a few grouse in the cooler. But the oldest boy has a young family at home and he used the extra time to come home and spend a couple un interrupted days with his family and the other two boys went back to work early so, in the end it worked for everybody. Plus the road we use to get in there can be touch and go if you get to much moister so we took advantage of it being dry still and got out early.
