Well I finally made it back from Namibia late Monday and was back to work early Tuesday morning (in future give yourself a day to deal with some jet lag!! lol). The hunt was absolutely phenomenal and everything that I had expected. We were hunting on a 30,000 acre ranch in Northern Namibia - about 6 hours drive north of Windhoek. Tobie and his wife Lizelle were great hosts and we were welcomed into their home on arrival. The area is
usually very dry this time of year and ambush at the waterholes can be very successful with a bow. I should note that Tobie specializes in archery hunts with the blinds being fairly close to 5 waterholes that he has on his ranch. This year was different as they had more than double their annual rainfall this year and the water table was still quite high and most animals did not need water. I still did my time in the blinds and treestands and got to see some pretty cool animals. The Hartebeest, Blesbok and Impala were all taken from a ground blind at the water holes, the gemsbok was bayed up with dogs and the Kudu was taken on a spot and stalk hunt. So it ended up being a great variety to the hunt, each having some success. There were so many great memories from the trip, I don't even know where to begin or what to share first so I will stick to the pictures for now.
Now the challenge is - how to convince my wife that I need to go back!! LOL
My 17+" Blesbok - This guy was green scored to be the #2 Naimibian Blesbok with a bow and #4 overall
My 53" Kudu that I got on the 11th day of the hunt. I passed up a number of smaller Kudu through out the hunt and was rewarded with this old mature bull.
My 37" Gemsbok
My 23" Impala
My red Hartebeest
My friend Steve who hunted with me got 6 animals (57" Kudu, 34" Gemsbok, Black Wildebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Warthog and a Red Hartebeest). Definitely a trip I would recommend and do again.
