New Addition

A little while ago we had to put my old lab down and struggled with the decision whether or not to get another dog and ultimately decided not to replace him and live our lives without a dog in the house.

Not too long ago I returned to the transport industry and am away from home for a couple weeks at a time causing the missus to feel somewhat insecure at times as due to the economy there seems to be more and more petty crime and home invasions.

With that in mind and just plain not being able to live my life without a four legged friend in the house we decided to bite the bullet and get another addition to the house.

After looking over a few types and wanting something that will watch over the homestead when we are away while being generally friendly to those that are invited into our home we decided on this fine fellow.
We picked him up from a local sheep ranch south of us where he was born in the barn with his 3 brothers and sister. Both the mother and father and sister of the father are working dogs so the possibilities for him to be a semi working dog or hunter are in the picture as well

His father is a great pyrenees and mother is a healer
He is eleven weeks old and is already 28 pounds.

Good for you Blacktail, my old friend is getting up there also. Said before this is my last dog. Wife and kids have a bet going that it's not. Hard to think of the house without one though. Good looking dog and will be a great protector.

Nice looking pup. Please post as he grows. I have been without a dog for 3 yrs since my last GSP was put down. We still have the wife's rat dog(Chihuahua) but that don't really count as a dog lol. Although she is a good runt and smart as a whip.

I too look forward to another GSP, a dog you can play with and not break like the rat dog.

Congrats on the new family member. Should fit your needs well once he grows up.

Thought I would give you all an update.
He loves it outside no matter the weather and sometimes just wants out to sit or lay down on the deck.
I have some elk bones I boiled up  and some antler sheds that he is wild about
Since we got him six weeks ago, he has gained 16 pounds is quite diligent in making sure he is aware of everything that is going on around the house and property.
Also has never had any accidents in the house and makes sure that he lets us know when he needs out no matter the time of day.
He is a great companion for the wife when I am away working and makes things feel secure around the place even at this young age.

Smart pup, get's the program and where he fits into it all. Good dogs in my opinion learn early where they fit in the pack, if they get it like your does, they make a great family member.

he is 6 1/2 months old now and is fitting in pretty well.
Getting to be a big boy at just over 60 pounds and still growing.
Bigger than his mother the Healer but not quite the size of his Great Pyrenees father.
Guards the house and property when needed which is a bonus as I drive for a living and am not home for a couple weeks at a time
