New truck maybe/probably
« on: January 23, 2018, 10:24:28 PM »
Toss up between a F150 and a Silverado 1500..

This ofcourse will most likely be the last truck that I buy in my up coming retirement.

Yes I have the guys at both Griffiths ford and Stetson GM digging up the best deal that they can find.. ;D

Question is what would you pick?

Ford or GMC??

I like them both but price will be the decideing factor.

I'm a GM guy through and through, and that's GMC not Chevy, why drive a jobber when you can drive the real thing.

But those F150's are nice trucks as well you can't go wrong either way Sonny. Like you say let the price dictate. Can't wait to see the pic of the new toy.

Well I can't comment on the new chev/gmc  trucks but I can tell ya I way prefer my personal 04 z71 to my new f-150 work truck.
Our company mechanic has nothing positive to say about our f-150's for what it's worth.
I have had all 3 north american brands over the years and have had better luck with chev/gmc then the others.
The reputations of the local dealers would play a large roll in my choice as well if there is a known difference between them.
Some are a total nightmare when inevitable a warranty issue pops up..

Now i said this when I got this last truck . Probably
My last truck ...never had anything but Fords .
Drove 30-40 K Kms per year in my work years (38 ) .
That's 38 or more years of Fords ...only one dog 2007 Supercab .
My buddy has a 17 GMC 2500 diesel about $70K or more
   What a nice ride ...I have a 2014 F150  with 24k .....
It's a XLT  super crew with everything but leather .
5 litre , gas mileage is pretty good .
Thinking SUV next but every time I get in one
        I get closetaphobia....

Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with either depending on what you're looking for.  You're staying away from a Dodge so that's the biggest thing hehe  ;D.

My current truck is an 2014 F150 with the ecoboost and it has been a really good truck so far (80,000km).  I was originally hoping to go with a 5l but had a hard time finding a truck at the time that had the options I wanted without the turbos so I took an ecoboost for a test drive and compromised.  I gotta say it never seems to get old driving that thing, pulls and pulls.  I can hook the quad trailer up with three bikes on it and you barely notice it's there.  I hope it stays reliable, a couple friends of mine have 250 and close to 300k on their ecoboosts without an issue and another had one until 100,000 and dumped it because it was troublesome.

For reliability the Vortec engines are traditionally pretty bullet proof.  My old 2001 one with a 5.3 got sold at 366,000 with zero engine or transmission issues.  Electrical and chassis was a little different story though.  With that said a year and a half later I saw it on the road still going.   An uncle of mine ran a 98 3/4ton with a Vortec in it until just under 600,000 as a hot shot truck until he retired.  Truck is still going, only minor repairs and a transfer case.

For a 1500 imho the F150 is the better OVERALL truck currently.  Where I used to work we had the option of running our own truck as an owner/operator.  For the most part it was a mixed bag of different 3/4 - 1 tonne trucks but the guys that chose to run half tonnes had Fords.  They just held up more reliably and carried the tool/parts weight better than other half tonnes in that environment.  Just a few thoughts, probably can't go wrong either way.

Right on can't wait to see the new ride.  If you're sitting in it in the picture, looks pretty Fordish?

I'm sure your new truck will work well for you. I have had ford trucks and they were fine but since 2008 that's all I've bought. I drive a 3500 Denali and own 2500, SLT, and 2 Colorado's.
I still shop for truck deals. Sonny, you got a steal
