Off road vehicle helmets
« on: November 28, 2016, 09:16:07 PM »
What ****ing bullshit.  Now helmets mandatory for ATV's, sleds, dirt bikes etc on public land (of course not first nations land though).

For starters in my area, rough guess that %90 of the ATV accidents are with first nation people..  Sooo..??

Next, most ATV crashes involved booze/drugs..  So helmet those ****ing assholes up, leave the rest of us be.  So ****ing sick of two sets of laws for 2 type of Canadians.

Never, not once have I even come close to banging my head, flipping a machine, running into something etc..  And I'm probably like most of use on here.

Should be 18 and under mandatory, over 18 make your own choice.

I'm being %100 honest.  In the 9 years I've lived in Northern Alberta ALL atv crashes were either a)someone under the age of 18 driving a full size machine with no supervision  b) boose  c) drugs...    I sincerly say I don't know of a single ATV/sled/dirt bike crash here that didn't involve one of those factors..

Last year a 13 year old girl in this area was critically hurt when she flipped a full size atv..  Zero parent supervision.

I know RCMP, peace officers and fish cops constantly catch under 18 year old kids on adult machines and I've never heard of anything happen.

About 10 years ago to brothers hit each other head on on 800cc sleds.  One kid was 11 and the other was 15.  I heard they were going over 60km in the middle of the night thorugh a field.  Both kids hospitalized, but neither seriously hurt.  Parents bought both kids new sleds right after, same 800cc mountain machine.

http://www.edmontonsun.com/2016/11/28/new-legislation-mandates-atv-snowmobile-and-dirt-bike-riders-to-wear-helmets

Sorry for the rant, but shit I'm livid.  I get that hospital/ambulance bills cost tax payers, but let people make their mistakes and stop protecting them from hurting themselves.  Making them wear a helmet is NOT going to change the booze, too big of a machine, no supervision for inexperienced riders etc...  If anything wearing a helmet probably gives these dumbasses more confidence to do these stupid things.

If I am forced to wear a fing helmet on crown land, I'll wear it until I'm 200 yards in the bush than I'll strap it to the rack for the remainder of the day.  I never see enforcement off the roads you cant drive a truck.

Sledding is a different story.  I see parks officers every time I ice fish in the park.  Which is good in a way, but it means I'll have to wear a helmet sledding while ice fishing in the park.  On my 1996 skandic with a 2 foot wide track that can't really go over 40km/hr.  ::)

Yep, bull crap. I thinking of pulling out and moving to a free county. Russia looks good. I was told once by a young Liberal, that Canada needs 10 percent of his kind to do the thinking for the other 90 percent, because we are not capable of thinking for ourselves.  Guess that's where we are headed. I wont wear one on my SxS, guess I'm a crook for my guns and now my Yamaha.

I will wear a helmet and so will my son if we are riding hard just playing in the mud.  That being said just putting around scouting or working I will not be wearing a helmet just my 2 cents

I do not even own a quad or sled but this is some major b.s!
The only hope is that the officers on the ground retain some basic brain function beyond tax collector and practice major restraint when in comes to ticketing.
If you were a r.c.m.p member involved with high river you are a disgrace to the uniform and a traitor to the citizens of this country.

I don't own a quad or a sled either.  I consider this to be a "feel good" law.  Will wearing a helmet on crown land really lower the injuries incurred on these vehicles?

I think some of our fellow Alberta Sportsman drive quads in the bush for a living like my survey buddies.  This helmet law is sure going to be "fun"  >:( with that crowd.

Just another law saying "it is for the children".  How could you not approve of a law "for the children" you heartless, cold conservative? Then the liberal will say to you,  "You mean heartless people should feel guilty".

The government civil servant "fart catchers" will now have work for another while drafting the legislation.

That was a good one about the liberal thinking . The govt of the
People looking after the people ! Just like gun owners , quadders ,
sledders , very minor part of the population.  I have to wear a helmet
When I'm biking ( 27" Norco ) so why not everyone . The majority
In a democracy win out .....I want to see Brian in his helmet very soon .
This is nothing , I'm thinking there's no way your getting Rachel and the
Dippers out for a few terms . Not till they really piss off the unions ,
My idea of upper and lower Alberta looking better all the time ...eh ..eh..
My motto

" QUESTION ALL AUTHORITY "

  and media ....

Do I even have to comment on this. I dare not the language I would choose to use is not appropriate.

They surveyed 2200 people, where, in West Edmonton Mall ?? Fricken comununist government.

Like already posted, maybe when I'm close to a road other than that forget it,, I'll decide.. Whens the last time you seen one of those fat donut eatin cops or fish pigs back in the bush anyways, not me. They sit on the road eatin sandwiches waiting for people to drive by them.

Tell us how you really feel, Terry!!!!  :) Nanny state always knows best, just ask notley or any of her fellow idiots in government.  Their surveys are always tailored to suit their ends, thus when they get the replies that they want they can tell us that they had a survey.  The fish cops have been playing on their ATV's back in the bush all around the area checking hunters in the bush.  This fall is a first for that.

Laws are very rarely reversed. When have you ever seen a right given back, they are only taken. Gun registration being a rare one in deed.

Nope this one will be here to stay it's a cash grab and regardlesss of who's in power they can't refuse cash.

Well they did a study and found that only people on crown land had head injures, and do not have the ability to think for themselves. You see there is this line thing on a map and if you cross it your chances of being hurt is worth $150.00 bucks each time,(lower fruit law)  They also did another study and found that the NDP had their head so far up their a$$, that wearing a helmet would do nothing to stop brain damage.

I have some degeneration in my neck.  When I wear a helmet whether I am on a quad or sitting at home I get a headache from it. I figured it was a weight of the helmet issue.  I found a very light downhill ski helmet that does not give me a headache.  I wonder if I will be able to still use the lighter ski helmet for quadding?
If not I wonder if a note from a chiropractor would allow me to wear the lighter ski helmet?

Medical reasons may. Or you can be like me and just not wear one. I'll fight the ticket. It is the only way I can stand up against this kind of nanny law. I'll just find a way to cheat the government if I have to pay. There is always a way of getting back enough to make a ticket a wash.
