Online Harvest Survey.
« on: January 09, 2014, 09:00:13 PM »
I did my online harvest survey this evening and I don't really like the way it is set up and asks the questions.

Like for instance it asked if I hunting whitetail deer and in what wmu and how many days,, well I hunted a fair bit but never harvested one and submitted it as such. But my issue is,, it wasn't because of opportunity or lack there of that I never harvested one it was by choice, the the question doesn't ask that. So the way the question is asked it could very well be misinterpreted as not havering the opportunity do to lack of game,, which is not the case..

Just don't like the way it's set up,, lots of wrong info can be gathered from it.

I reluctantly did mine as well, that's actually a good point Walleyes. I didn't harvest a whitetail either, but by choice. They should indeed be asking the question "are you a trophy hunter or a sustenance hunter" and then take it from there, asking if you could have harvested a meat deer but chose not to. Then they would have a better idea of the lack of mature deer around.

Even just adding the question, "Did you have opportunity to kill?" would give them much more info to work with.
Let's face it, sometimes you get the opportunity, but blow the stalk, get winded, or simply miss.  When that has happened to me, I always figure, "I had my chance".

Pretty typical really. This way they can come to just about any conclusion they want and then use this as the research when asked to back up their decisions. About as reliable as the research they do on our fish populations in this province,, and we wonder why things are as out of whack as they are..

Like on the post on the fish netting, Duffy tells us they don't set nets on known walleye holes,, oh really that's smart.. Then when the nets come up with little walleye in them they can say the lake has no walleye in it, where's the logic ?? Why even bother with the money waste.
