Outboard repairs??
« on: April 19, 2015, 05:48:53 PM »
Took the boat out this afternoon and blew the cobwebs off of her..We had fun but then ran into a little problem.

At full throttle the water pump was pissing out a good stream of water but at trolling speed it was spitting out very little water and after a few minutes we'd get a warning buzzer.Open her up again to get the water flowing and the buzzer would go away.I'm thinking that we need a new impeller but there is no marina here in Hinton so my question is..
Where is there a good place to take the boat for repairs?
I was thinking of hauling it to Riverside in St Albert next time I head to Ft Mac.

Is there a place in Spruce Grove or Stony Plain?

What to do what to do? ???

It's up to you Sonny but in all honesty it's a pretty simple job. I have done a couple over the years and it's basic stuff. Order your parts through riverside or somebody, the pumps come in complete kits with seals, impeller and housing. From there it's about an hour job to replace. Really if you can change a tire you can change a water pump on an outboard.

But it's really up to you what you feel comfortable doing.

Sonny,

If that is the old impeller sitting on the wood, it doesn't look that bad.  I have seen a ton worse than that.
I think I see a rip in the social fabric, Brother can you spare some ammo?

Yup that's the old one and it was still pumping out a good stream of water but only at full throttle. At trolling speed the water was barely dribbling out and after a few minutes the hot engine warning buzzer would come on so it was best that we replaced the impeller.

Does the new one pump good at idle now?
Did you get a chance to try it out yet?
