As some of you may know through the pics I have posted over the last couple years, I have been extremely fortunate to have been able to harvest a good number of animals, and those I have harvested have been of some good size.
I was made aware of a gentleman through a post he made on Facebook as a reply to one of mine.
His name is Keith, and as I posted back and forth found that he was an ex Islander that grew up near Port Alberni
He grew up hunting and fishing all of his life until his parents passed and he decided to move out here about six years ago to Alberta where he has family.
Keith is on a disability pensions which most of you know is lacking in many ways and I asked him a few weeks ago if he would like to share in my good fortunes. His reply was to say the least,....ecstatic.
I got to meet Keith today in a small, poorly kept up rental house in a run down area of town called "the flats", which he was proud to call home.
I brought him a mixture of Mule Deer, Whitetail, Elk, and Goose in steaks, ground, stew and sausages, and trout and pike that were taking up room in the freezer.Being a stand on his own proud kind of guy, not asking for any handouts, he gratefully accepted my gift of some much needed supplies.
We sat and visited for a while and swapped stories and lies of hunts and fishing trips of days gone by in areas that we both remembered well from the Left Coast Rock.
I met and made a new friend today and hope to continue the relationship in the years to come.
I have also helped two more families this winter with meat donations to help feed some very young kids where there may not have been a chance for that nutrition.
Makes me feel good at least.....
Please be mindful that not everyone in this great prosperous country that we live in can afford the same things that the rest of us take for granted.
If you can................. ......... Pay it Forward
