Conserving the Land - Since 2008, the Alberta Government has been working on land use plans that balance environmental, ecological, and cultural needs. The final plan for the Lower Athasbasca region is awaiting cabinet approval and the process for the South Saskatchewan Regional Plan has been repeatedly delayed.
Question: What will you do to ensure the land use planning process moves ahead in a way that reflects public input and protects our environment?
Grizzly Bears - Alberta grizzly bear has been listed as threatened. Yet they continue to die at unsustainable rates from poor garbage management, poor education about human-bear conflicts, and a growing number of roads resulting from various developments in their habitat.
Question: What will you do to reduce grizzly bear mortality in Alberta and ensure that all aspects of the provincial recovery plan are adequately funded and implemented to recover this species?
Caribou - The proposed federal government caribou recovery strategy allows for continued industrial activity in areas where Alberta’s most vulnerable caribou herds roam. In the long term, caribou need vast areas of intact forest, and cannot be protected just by killing their predators.
Question: If elected, what will you do to ensure that enough habitat is protected to ensure all Alberta’s vulnerable caribou herds have the best chance to survive?
Protection of the Castle Special Place - Logging in the Castle Special Place has been a highly contentious issue. Public opinion polls show that four out of five local residents oppose the logging and three out of four want the Castle to be protected as a Wildland Park.
Question: If elected, what will you do to ensure that the Alberta Government introduces legislation to protect the Castle?
