Again those are great pics SG....

Moose Hunter, how about some storys to go with some of your pics ie truck in the water and vehicle that appears to have a run in with the moose....

Truck that went through the ice was on gull a few years ago. Someone broke their leg on a skidoo and the rescue team tried driving over a pressure crack. We would have hit the moose but I spotted it in time to just barely miss it on the highway near sylvan lake. Moose made it across the median and someone else hit it. We turned around to make sure no one died and luckily the only injuries were superficial cuts from the windshield. Airbags never went off cause the moose was too tall to hit the bumper. I'm sure they had some pretty wicked whiplash the next day.
Save a tree, kill a beaver.

Thx Chris.. Its been a few years since I have been out for Grayling but moving back north I am looking forward to getting out for them again.I think people underestimate the power these little fish have. They really are scrappy little buggers. They get that big back fin flared out and they can really cut some water with it..

I never knew you could eat fireweed... I use it all the time to wipe my hands, and in a pinch as arsewipe.

Here are a few pictures I took on my way to Crowsnest Pass Friday...I stopped to take a picture of the deer and then I notice the animals further down up the valley...So I set the camera to digital zoom and took a few pics...I just happened to look in the rear view mirror and spotted these elk checking me out..

Top left and right elk in the back ground

Elk - taken with the digital zoom at 48X

Chain link fence - Many hunters will know where I took these pictures

Treat each day as your last; one day you will be right.

Camera body is a Canon 7D attached to it is a plethora of various lenses that I believe I have listed somewhere in here for Chris as well.

That's my favorite AB spider, the Goldenrod. They seem to be a good omen.

And I envy your photography. Always amazing quality and subject matter.

Picking wild food just comes down to learning. Books are a start, elder knowledge helps. And then just start doing it, your menu will grow each year.

Fireweed is completely edible. The best eating is the very young shoots before they leaf out. Texture is like asparagus, with a very mild flavour. The ones I picked were at the very end of good eating. The leaves are just starting to get bitter, and the stalk is just getting fibrous. These were picked in the lower foothills, I imagine the fireweed is prime higher up towards the snowline. When picking, just snap off the stalk where it breaks easily, the point where the fibres have not grown yet. LAter in the year, the flowers and very young seed pods are next on the menu.

Walleyes, For cooking, treat it like asparagus or spinach. Sauteed or lightly steamed. Dinner was fresh trout, with fried Oyster mushrooms and lightly steamed Fireweed. A bit of butter, lemon juice, garlic, S&P, and done. Try to get that meal in an Urban restaurant.  8) Just don't eat fireweed following Rock's suggestion.   ;D

Badback, I know where you took the pics. The largest Bull elk I've ever seen, antler and body wise, was on top of the hill to the west. My compass went wonky up there. ;)
