So last night I am going downtown Red Deer and sitting on Taylor drive by Superstore, and this super wide 4 x 4 mulie buck comes waltzing across the crosswalk, naturally he had the walk signal, and I am just a sitting there with my mouth wide open in shock lol. After crossing he heads for the river valley. Sorry for the blurry pic I was so shocked never got a good shot..

I started reading this before I looked at the pic and thought it was going to be a joke.

Damn, you never know what you are going to see when you least expect it!

I pissed away my whole summer fishin and drinkin beer when I should have been cutting firewood. (We are 100% wood heat in our house, no furnace). Now I'll be cuttin wood all winter.

On a happier note though, don't you just love a new chain on your saw? The first half hour is such a pleasure. No pushing or struggling, she just slides right through like your cutting cream cheese.

We cut our firewood in a 14 year old burn. We drop standing dead trees that have been standing dead for 14 years. They burn like paper and generate an awesome HOT bed of coals. Once I build that hot bed of coals I fill the stove to the nuts with the greenest wood I can find (cut live within a few days). That combination will burn for more than 24 hours and keeps a nice level of humidity in the house. When we went away for Xmas last year I burned the stove wide open for 6 hours (it was like 50 degrees C in here) then stuffed it full of green and choked everything down. We left and were gone for around 150 hours. When we got home it was still around 15 degrees C in the house and you could still feel a trace of heat in the ashes. I thought that was pretty cool.

So today I'm watching the news and hear something about the fed. gov't starting a, "cold" warning bureaucracy to warn people when it's, "too cold" to venture outside.  Really?  Does the gov't really think people are so stupid they need a gov't official to tell them if it's, "safe" to venture outside?

My first thought is, "how long before another bureaucrat decides we need to be regulated on when we can leave our houses"?

My second was, "gonna be a lot of hungry cattle(tongue in cheek)".

My third was, "ya, that's what we need, more bureaucrats".

Methink's it's long past time to hit the reset button on society.   Where's the spanish flu when you need it?  The herd needs thinning.

Holy crap we got a lot of heavy, wet snow!  Was going to wait till Sun. to move snow since we're supposed to get another 5-7" tonight/tomorrow but noticed it was pretty wet on the bottom so figured better move it before it freezes in.

Might have some sloughs for ducks next spring yet.   :)

Well I have been doing a lot of "quading" in the past month or so.

Up the driveway and down the driveway...repeat as needed.

Amen.  What gets me is how fast the pussification of society is happening.  I consider it not to to terribly long ago when remembering the school years, and school never got cancelled unless the ambient temperature was -40.  Minus 39 and a wind chill of -50 didn't matter your heading to school.  Nowadays it seems any slight chance of might not be great weather and your hearing the bus cancellations on the way to work.
