Rant & Rave
« on: July 26, 2019, 11:40:19 PM »
Can we have a Rant and Rave sticky? Maybe?

I'll start with a rant about walleye tags.

So anyone who has used the walleye tags know that they come off very easily. Don't matter if you have the fish on a stringer or in a fish basket. A thrashing walleye will dislodge a tag.. Truth.

So we were at Pigeon Lake and the fish cop boat pulled us over, that's a good thing. We checked out legal in all aspects, lifejackets. bailing can, yada yada yada..

But one thing gave me a written warning. No not a ticket but just a warning about improper tagging of walleye.

Give me a break man.  ::)

He said that we did not apply the tags properly because they came off from a trashing fish. I told him that years ago we would tag fish on a stringer only to see the tags floating 20 yards away from the boat.
So now we use a wire fish basket. If a tag comes off no problem because the tag is still in the basket.

He didn't care and still said we didn't apply the tags correctly. By now my blood pressure is sky high but I just bit my tongue because of my grandsons being in the boat.

Yes Sir, next time I'll apply them properly. >:(

Here's a pic.. All walleye were tagged but as you can see some tags came loose/undone.

RANT.. get better tags. >:(

I hear you sonny, I’ve had them fall right off in the live well most times. It’s stupidity but what else can we expect from our inept wildlife managers, common sense, yah right.

Sonny et al:

Phone 310 0000

Request the ADM's office of Fish and Wildlife. Chew out the fartcatcher who will answer your phone call and tell him or her your problem. Document Names and Numbers throughout the process. Then call your MLA. Chew your MLA out so he will chew out the ADM.  Let us get some results. NOW!!!

Please do not rail on the local fisheries biologist or technician.  They have little say in what comes down from the politicians and is put into law. The top fisheries biologists meet with the big shot lawmakers only once or twice a year.

So the new hunting regs are out and I have a big RANT

So there's a new road corridor on highway 40 south of Hinton. Well I'm ok with that but the way they describe the area is nonsense. Just read it..

11. Highway 40 Cadomin - within 1 kilometre (1094 yards)
 (a) west of the centre-line of Provincial Highway 40 between the
intersection of Provincial Highway 40 and the northern boundary
of the southwest quarter of section 8, township 48, range 24, west
of the 5th meridian at its northerly extent and the intersection of
Provincial Highway 40 and the northern boundary of section 5,
township 48, range 24, west of the 5th meridian, and
 (b) of the centre-line of Provincial Highway 40 between the
intersection of Provincial Highway 40 and the northern boundary
of section 5, township 48, range 24, west of the 5th meridian at
its northerly extent and the intersection of Provincial Highway 40
and the eastern boundary of section 24, township 47, range 24,
west of the 5th meridian at its southeasterly extent.

Yeah that's just as clear as mud ffs.  >:(

Just put a sign on the highway that says " Road corridor starts here and another sign that says Road corridor ends here."  ::)

End of Rant.

Hey Sonny:

This is for sheep hunting boundaries to try and make court cases for infractions stick.

If you think this is bad, Jasper Park North sheep country has not only Alberta and Federal game wardens, but also Federal surveyors monitoring just where sheep are harvested to acquire that conviction.

I am not sure what the Hinton judge is like these days, but there was one fellow that used to throw out cases scolding the government fartcatchers to find some real poachers.

Add on:

Are the creeks pretty high around Hinton?

I like to sneak around to catch and release Athabows.
