Sleeping In
« on: December 03, 2016, 07:19:53 AM »
Just curious, been up for a few hours now, it's my day off. I get up at 4:30 during the work week and my body(must be my body cuase I an't smart enough for it to be my brain ) just can't sleep in. My wife gets up during the week at 6:30 and on the weekend she sleeps until 8:30. She has been bugging me to sleep in on the weekends  because when she gets up, I ready to "get er done" . Anyway, any one else do this or can you sleep in? My average hours of sleep is about 6, and it work's for me. Not very often am I tired during the day.

I rotate shifts so often that I lose track of how much I sleep. We generally do 1 week or 10 days of nights when we start a hitch, which the first day is a 24 HR day cause I get up at 5 in the morning drive up to work and work all night until 5 the next morning. Then when we switch to days we work all night and through the next day until 5 the next evening so this one a guy is usually up for about 30 hrs. It really throws the body for a loop that one. Your dead tired but are awake by 2 in the morning it takes a while to get the body in sync. A lot of times I'm not in sync by the time I get home and it makes a mess of things. I'm awake at 3 in the morning and drooling on the couch watching tv by 7 in the evening. Eventual the body gets aligned and a typical morning for me starts some time between 7 and 8 at the latest I generaly go to sleep around 10 and get up at 730 when I'm home and it's a good sleep. When I'm at work it's never a good sleep I wake up every couple hrs at the best and toss and turn it's just that type of job always something going on out there and we sleep on location so the job is right there.  When I'm home it's a deep relaxed sleep. Unless I have a project on the go then I'm up at 6 and at it early but I've been lazy the last couple months and haven't started any projects at home, but there are a few itching to get started lol.

Shift work is a killer, you get so out of the normal natural cycle. I heard guys say it take a few years when they stop, to begin to feel rested.

Shift worker here also.Been doing 12 hour nights and days for over 30 years and yes it does screw your system up.  :(
As for sleeping in I have no problem in that department at all unless it's fishing or hunting time.  ;)

I am retired and can sleep in every day. So for a while I started sleeping late and still going to bed early and i started to be tired all day.  so I get up at 6 am now and get things done and i have a lot more energy.  But between the old dog and myself we have to get up a couple of times during the night to have a leak. So I never get a solid 8 hours of sleep.  I sleep for 4 hours and then am awake off and on for the other 4 hours.

I am kind of a mess in this department. Sometimes I go to bed late and sleep until 7. Sometimes I go to bed late and am up at 4:30 and go to work. I have no real rhythm to it, just depends on my level of fatigue I suppose. In November I can't sleep past 6 no matter what time I go to bed, the primetime clock gets me up.
