That "other" forum is going nuts with the bans
« on: July 20, 2017, 01:50:43 PM »
It seems that the "other" Alberta hunting and fishing forum is going nuts with bans, often for few or little reasons. The latest member banned, with over 17,000 posts is Rugatika.

Gosh, me and Rugatika have had some robust debates, but in the end, it never got personal. I got banned a number of months ago, apparently because I in the view of a moderator (who no longer is one), he felt, "insultng people of faith and turning almost any thred into an argument". Looking at that forum, it is OK for the religious to espouse their perspectives, but Thor help you if you say anything contrary.

I'm sure there are many of us who can think of longterm members who have been banned, many who may be here now.It seems that if anyone even breaths something contrary to the existing NDP government, that either the thread gets closed quickly, or another longterm member or members get bounced. Don't forget that the owner of that forum also publishes the Alberta regulations for hunting/trapping/fishing guides. He doesn't want to jeopardize that obviously. Sucky way to run a forum, but so be it.

Your preaching to the choir here.

We will discuss any thing here but as well we will not tolerate insulting people or their beliefs. I am a person of faith but that's what I beleive, I don't come on here and insult those that don't have the same beliefs I do, I expect the same from others. Doesn't mean we can't discuss it just be respectful.

I really don't give a rip what someone believes. I start giving a rip when that belief is the basis of harm towards others, or if they try and tell others how wrong they are in their own belief or non-belief. I kind of live by the secular perspective that actually should work for everyone, "If it feels good, do it..... If it harms you or someone else, don't". That pretty well covers anything one can come up with.

I feel it is best to live the best life one can, both for one's self, other others.

I was on the other one and did not get kick off or do anything bad. Why I don't post or go on it much anymore is because even simple hunting and adventure story's I like to share with fellow outdoorsmen where picked apart. Heaven forbid you ask a gun question, I was told a lot of times I don't know "jack " about anything(lot of experts there I guess) . Anyway I found a home here with good guys and some read my stories , when they do reply it is very positive. I have complained on here about our two currant governments and my feelings are genuine, but I don't call no one down. Also as you can tell I'm no book writer, on the other site I was correct lots regarding my REDNECK schooling. In the end I hold nothing against anyone next door, just a better neighborhood here for me.

I dunno 6 years we are still here, we are still small, but I don't have to weed through posts about how many red shoes someones wife has in their closet, which is fine by me. Dunno if the owner over there figured out yet that we weren't a threat to his business, initially he took this place very personal for some reason, the intention always was creating a better environment. I have my own businesses I started this because I was unhappy with the options and because I had the technical ability to do it, this place is free, we don't have ads other than google ads which trust me don't cover the cost, and yeah we had some issues starting out but those got weeded through and went away.

Get the impression it's core membership are left wing voting gov't employee's.  You know, the ones who continually vote lib federally, voted in the dips provincially and then think doing that will allow them to retain any freedoms;  what with entitlement and personal greed being all that matters.

No doubt.  The trend there has been tilting left for years now and is obviously supported.  A hard core group of lefties run amok there.
I think I see a rip in the social fabric, Brother can you spare some ammo?

That forum is a busy one these days. I've had an account for the most part since near the beginning when it was the old style forum and have never had a suspension or ban but with that said it was a lot looser back in the day and haven't posted anything in recent years.  I still pay attention mostly because it is still a good place to obtain news on what's happening in the hunting and fishing world and with that many members it can be a powerful tool to keep people informed.  I truly feel the reason we haven't had a change in the sheep hunting regulations yet is due to that forum and people being made aware of what's going on.  Before the age of social media and online forums our biologists would have pushed their agenda through and the first we as the public would hear of it would be in the regulations.
It's hayday is definitely passed though.  There is a lot of real solid outdoorsmen/woman (some personal friends) that have either taken a ban for next to no reason, or moved on due solely to the relentless nitpicking of jealous people trying to be somebody hiding behind a computer screen.  I really think if people posted with the mindset that they won't say anything that they wouldn't say to somebodies face it would clean up a lot of the wieners but that's just not the way the way the internet works it seems, more people more problems.  I think they are trying to clean up some of the bs but it's a tall order with that many people.  I sure hope those mods are getting paid, I'm assuming it's become a profitable venture and no way in heck would I do it for free.
Why Rugatika got banned is a mystery to me but who knows the full story.  His views aligned a lot with mine and when I do go over there to check things out I enjoyed his input.  He did look for trouble a bit though and maybe that contributed to it just as I assume your bans came about avb3.
I'll be truthful and say I'm a little reluctant to see you here.  This is a great place to share and enjoy time spent afield with good people who get out there and enjoy the finer things in life. Looking forward to seeing some of your input apart from the "Back at Camp" section.

Yes it can't be easy monitoring that many people. It was a good place at one time but those days are passed.

Although this place is small and slow at times it just feels like home. It's like your place of business or a company you work for, you want to see it be successful yet you don't want it to get to big and lose the personal touch.

I for one appreciate what Paul has done and is doing for us here, it can't be easy. Paul like many has went through some tough times in his business lately and this place has been nothing but a cash draw on him. I thank him and applaud him for keeping it going for us.

Thank You Sir.

I appreciate the work also Paul, I have never been a guy that posts anything much on a computer site. But like Walleyes said it's like home here. Hope the best for your business in the future Paul.

Yes definitely a two thumbs up for Paul and this forum.  Much better feel imho over hear and a lot of the folks are people that I'd have no problem sharing a campfire with.  I think you nailed it Walleyes in your post, as the forum grows hopefully it doesn't get so crazy that it turns into that other place, there was a time where that forum was a lot like this one.

I am admin on a very large forum, with over 185,000 members. We have about 18 mods plus us 3 admins, and it works pretty smoothly. People have opinions, and sometimes strong ones, but we try and rehab members rather than bounce them. I can only recall one multi-1000 post member ever being banned, and that was for a six month term. She came back, and is doing fine now. I'm not about to tell another forum how to run theirs, but I know what works in our case. Our mods are required to interact with members if they question a disciplinary action; forget that happening in that 'other' outdoor forum. Don't even try and asking for clarification.

The maturity level there is out standing this sort of stuff is just hilarious to them. http://www.outdoorsmenforum.ca/showthread.php?t=325891

Each one out doing the next with real nee slapper jokes.  keep in mind the age level and the experience they claim that's the only funny part about it.

The comments about that forum being taken over by left-leaning types is spot on.  After Rugatika got banned I posted about it, I'll admit it was none too nice, I told them what I think of their forum and where it is headed.

I got banned but I don't care, that site is now a joke.  You can't even post in the hunting or fishing sections without someone calling you out or arguing with you about some thing or another.

Just a bad vibe there now.
