Good thread Sonny…
-   The days before politically correct
-   The best person for the job not filling the status of 12% this, 24% those etc
-   The privately owned sporting goods stores i.e. Russell’s, Frenchies
-   The small town pool-hall that was also had the barber and sold guns
-   No size limits on fish
-   No Iphones, Androids, emails and texting to get ahold of me after hours and weekends
Treat each day as your last; one day you will be right.

Yep the good old days when:

-you would have the lake to yourself most days.
-you could keep your limit once in a while.
-you could catch a fish on every cast.
-life was just so much simpler.
-people were happier.

I think these pics were about 1988 or so on a small lake we used to quad into way back in the bush every spring:

My oldest brother inlaw bout 15 years my senior has had the air charter business out of Lac La Biche since the early 70's. he started out with float planes and ski planes back in the day.

I recall the days we would fly back into lakes like  Winefred, Behan, Spence,  I am talking back in the mid 70's,, I don't think I have to tell anyone that knows of these lakes today what the fishing was like back in those days.. Winefred was like nothing in the world,, walleyes like your leg was the norm on anything that hit the water. 15# pike out of Behan were nuisance cause you were after the big ones.. My dad logged back in behind Philomena and the Logan River ridge,, we used to walk into lakes like Big Chief, Waupau,, perch lol it's no used even thinking about it..

The good old days,, breaks my heart even thinking about it..

I liked the good old days when men were men and hunted using skill. Today hunters have no skill and rely on electronic gadgets and extreme long range firearms.

Wow that is quite a blanket (paint all with the same brush) statement.  Are you an anti-hunter?

I think you must mean some hunters today rely on electronics and extreme long range firearms, rather than more primitive skills to hunt.

It is funny though, that over history when ever hunters developed new equipment and methods that improved their success it was a GOOD thing.
And now that we most often don't hunt for meat but to "have fun" we have developed the "sporting, fair chase" mentality.

I think one of the major issues is the skill and success rates bowhunters are having, not sure that is the long range firearms that you are talking about.  I hunt with a bow to avoid these long range guys, its unfortunate that some hunters are wanting to limit bowhunting in this province rather than give it a shot.  Its there for everyone.

I hate to even think about it.. Born and raised in the bush in N/E A.B. you cant emagine the change we are seeing.. This place was kind of out of the way for years but now with all this heavy oil mania taking place,, its the center of the province and every yahoo there is is up here. Progress is progress but at what cost. I cant wait until most of the construction is over with at least and it slows down some around here,, wayyyyy to many people..

We have the same issues in Grande Cache over the last 14 years with O&G. I miss the days when GC was utilized mostly by locals and we had our little honey holes for the most part to ourselves. At one time a lot of people thought the Willmore was a part of Jasper and then Rob M of AO started writing a few articles in his magazine and then it seemed like the flood gates opened.

My comment would apply to bowhunters as well. They use electronic gadgets along with bows that kill/wound deer at longer ranges. I have no desire to hunt with a bow. With more bowhunters, the growing wounding rate will only increase. The same with guys taking long shots with rifles.

Like anything, know your abilities and stay within them.  It was the same in the "Good Old Days", maybe just a little more public today.   Not sure what your limitations are or why you believe you know everybody else's.

I miss certain thing's about the good old days forsure.  For all the reason's everyone has already suggested. However at this point in my life I am looking forward to the future with my family.  I have a young son coming up on two and can't wait to help him explore this great province.  The good old days were awsome now lets see what the future holds.

50 years from now my grandsons will be sitting around the campfire and they will say..

"I miss the good old days when grandpa used to sit around the fire with us and tell us stories about the good old days""

Life goes on.. ;)

I have to agree, the accurracy of a bow is not as great as a high powered rifle with a scope on it. I was one of those guys that couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a bow. Sold the bow and never had a need to buy another.

I've seen a deer or two running around with arrows sticking out of their carcass.
