Thoughts & prayers
« on: February 14, 2015, 05:31:27 AM »
My daughter, just recently graduated with M.Sc.(Geomatics) has been diagnosed with breast cancer and bone cancer.  She is receiving treatment at the Cross in Edmonton, and apparently responding well.  While we do not expect that her lifestyle after treatment will be as it was, we are hoping that she will be in a position to live independently again, albeit with some aids.  Please remember her in your thoughts & prayers.

Had family go through that as well. Not easy being the ones providing the support and staying strong. Hope YOU have support as well. Makes a big difference if you have someone else to keep you going. Best wishes for your family.

Catherine is responding well to treatment.  Her platelet count is near 2/3 normal, from 1/8 normal two weeks ago.  Her oncologist has not given her a terminus, however, has informed her that "I will have you on your pins in the very near future."  Her bone cancer is in her hips and backbone.  It has not penetrated the backbone to the spinal cord - Thank God!!!  Thus it gives us all some hope for her future!  Her hair are still in place, but are now starting to leave her.  She, by her own wishes, will have her locks shorn next Friday.  We as a family thank you fellow sportsmen & sportsladies for your support.  It is most reassuring to be associated with such a group as yourselves.  Thanks again for your prayers and good wishes.

Rick

For those of you who might be interested, here is a project that we as a family have had nothing to do with, in fact it came as quite a surprise.

I don't know what to say but feel that I must say something.
Words fail me and I cannot imagine anything that I might say that might assuage the anguish and fear that you must be feeling.

You will all need to be strong and have courage.
It must seem as though a mountain is before you... I can't even imagine...as a father myself... I don't want to.

God bless you all.

Catherine finished her 2nd round of radiation and rang the "Bell of Hope".  She will be doing a major chemo sesssion on Friday, March 13.  Caty seems to be responding well to treatment to this point.  While she will not be the same coming out as she was going in, I expect to spend considerable time sitting under my favorite pine tree with her this summer, where we can spread enough bullshit between us, enough to fertilize the surrounding trees.  Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers!!
