Trestle Bridge Fire
« on: April 26, 2016, 04:32:12 PM »
What a loss this is. There's not many of these old gems left in the country anyone we lose is a loss. They are real works of art these old trestle bridges now it will be replaced by some concrete monster.

Pretty easily really. Bad grass fire or brush fire. You can get a grass fire from the train itself if it's dry like it is and you get a spark from the rails. Those old bridges are creocote soaked timbers, burn like crazy.

Sad, grain elevators and trestle bridges, becoming a memory of our youth. But there is some Silver Ball at the bridge in Edmonton. Wonder if our great grand kids will some day say. The old silver balls feel apart and went into the river, part of our youth is gone. They just don't make silver balls like that anymore for half a million bucks. They where a real work of art. :-[

That makes sence..

Question #2: Was this trestle still in use and/or will it disrupt rail traffic?

I could google that but I'm lazy...lol

Walleyes, I am surprised that no one has flashed up the "Big Bay" trestle yet!!!!  Maybe it is too short to make a fire similar to the Mayerthorpe trestle.

No doubt,,especially if you consider the crowd that lives around there and that drives by there over the years.
