Turbo opinions please..
« on: February 02, 2016, 05:10:47 PM »
So here's the scoop..

I'm looking at a new Chev Cruz to use as a commuter car to Fort Mac and back.I took one out for a test drive and it had a 1.4 liter with a turbo..I was like wow this little car goes pretty darn good.  :)
My other option would be a 2.4 liter non turbo..No I didn't take one for a drive but buddy told me that it would be very close powerwise to the 1.4 turbo..

I have no experience with turbo engines what so ever but something tells me that a little engine with a turbo will not last as long as a non turbo engine..Is my way of thinking out to lunch or what?

I sure could use some opinions on this please because I'm not sure which engine to go with..  ???

the Cruze's 1.4-liter four produces a healthy 140 horsepower when wailed on, thanks to its turbocharger. When driven gingerly, the engine remains a small-displacement four-cylinder

When driven gingerly???

Well that leaves me out.. ;D

Do you feel safe driving that road in a small car like that Sonny. I know I don't like those small units,, just don't feel comfortable in them.

Been doing it in a little Sunfire for years and before that a little Ranger so it doesn't bother me at all.Besides most of the way is 4 lane now which is nice. 8)
The difference between 20 mpg and 40 mpg adds up pretty quick when you do 60,000 plus kms a year.Yes I need a cheap commuter for sure.

Thread has some age but what about those VW TDI's. I have never driven one but they are supposed to be very thrifty on diesel and are more of a midsized car? A little diesel car would be well suited to your commute I would think..........or didja buy something since?
