What up
« on: February 19, 2017, 09:11:30 PM »
So what's everybody up to tonight? I'm sitting around our winter camp with the family. Just spent the day cutting what my daughter calls "cookies" round logs 2' thick and about 10' round. There are for her center pieces for the tables at her wedding this summer. Lots of work cutting these things. Did them out of a big lodge pole out past Drayton Valley. Was a good day though, time in the bush with the whole family is always good. We are all just kind of doing our own thing now. I'm having a night cap before heading off to a good night sleep. Life is good. :)

Yup life is good.
I got home from Fort Mac on Friday.Played with a few guns on Saturday at the range.Today went to Edson Canadian Tire (Hinton didn't have any) and picked up a 18 gun Stack On cabinet for a sale price of $224.95,saved about $125 off regular price.
Might go to the range tomorrow and make some noise. :)

Head back up to Fort Mac on Wednesday.  :(

Sounds like a good day lever.

I'm up at work again, doing the night shift for 10 days then 10 shifts of days. Got up Friday so a ways to go yet. Just cemented Production casing today and we walked the rig over the next well, the boys are just putting together directional tools then we will run in and drill out and drill another one. This hitch then one more of 20 & 10 then we should be back on a 14 & 14 we all hope. We work steady enough here with no break up so it makes for a steady year.

I ran 4200m of production casing saturday, then ran surface casing in a foot of mud yesterday. Then I am heading out to run surface casing again this afternoon. I hope to get a few hrs with the family today before I head out again.
Just happy to be working.

Glad to hear your keeping busy snapshot, I think the worst is behind us now. May not be crazy as it was but summer should be steady enough for most.

Got out on the sleds with my son and 2 friends on Sunday. 100 ish km's zipping around the west Golden Triangle area. Fun fun. Need more snow  :) but still a good ride. Jealous Lever. I would love to have been winter camping in my wall tent this weekend.

There was some snow the other side of DV, To much to use the quads and not enough to use the sled's, to play much. Winter camping is one of my favorite things to do, wood stove burning hot, air outside is clean and fresh. And no bugs. :o We will do a few more I hope, before bear season starts.

I am set to retire Feb 28,2017 after 30 years working for the Dept of Justice. To celebrate I would like to go on a guided elk hunt. And as a token of my service I am thinking about a new rifle. My choices are a 200 year anniversary edition Winchester M 70 , Winchester extreme SS 7 mm Rem or a kimber mountain ascent in 7 mm mag. I also can get a Jack Oconner tribute rifle from a local dealer. My problem is do I get a limited edition rifle I may never shoot or go with the exteme SS that I would use and is the least expensive . The difference in cost I could put a FFP 25 power scope on my 22-250. Any thoughts or suggestions ???

For me it would depend on what I want to see happen to the gun. Will it be a family keep sake you want to hand down to maybe your grand children? Or just a hunting rifle to use. Most my guns are wood and have a special meaning, but are also used to hunt with so you can do both with one. But to me a plastic gun is not something I feel would be very special to my grand kids.  The scope is nice to have, but it can come in time anyway. My 2 pennies worth.

First off congrats on the upcoming retirement DS well done sir, I hope you get to enjoy your time.

On to the rifle. My personal opinion is why spend money on a tool you cant use nor anyone in the future can use. There is always more centimental value in guns that have a story of hunts and kills gone past. For myself there is no room in my cabinet for safe queens. Some I own don't get used much anymore but they are still there to use. Anything that can't be used is a waste of money as far as I'm concerned. But again that's my opinion.

I agree with that. They can be working tools of art, I don't own a gun that I don't shoot. But I am guilty of petting them lots though. A hunt will always make a gun a (family gun) I just have a hard time with plastic guns, but I have hunting buddies that think I an idiot for using my nice guns to hunt with.  :-\

I hear you Lever Action

A guy will go out in a sixty thousand dollar truck, and put the vehicle through absolute hell.

Yet he will not bring along his darling closet queens to hunt with in that truck he is beating up on.

Go Figure. ???

There has to be some fancy psychological term for such behavior.
