Ya Gotta love Face Book
« on: September 12, 2013, 12:04:19 PM »
Face Book's make report a poacher so much easier. I was looking at some pictures of some young guy's posting pics of some giant bull trout. Bragging , " oh ya we caught 22 today with x amount that went over 10lbs". Any one that has put in anytime at all fishing for them knows that with out bait those big bullies just aren't interested. I remember taking a well known outdoor writer to a pool on the kakwa that was loaded with grayling. Almost every cast we had grayling and every now and then a big bully would latch on to one. These things were monsters and wouldn't hit anything else but 12" grayling. Freddy as good as he was couldn't hook anything bigger than 2 lbs.

I don't know who reported the kids but one of them posted up on  his page Fish cops 1  us  0 lol, and admitting that bacon was the best bait.

Hats off to shane the only fishcop in the area for nailing them.

The trouble with using bacon for bait is eventually you want to cook it up and eat it yourself.

I had this happen recently at a time and place where we could legally use bacon for bull trout bait.

Expected response from an Alberta Sportsman Fella: Cool. Good to see them get pinched.

Expected response from that other awful place: Now wait a minute. Did you actually see them fishing with bait? Do you have any proof? You shouldnt condem them online unless you saw it. Were they native? Perhaps it was just a coincidence. Maybe your jealous cuz theyre a better fisherman than you. Did you phone the fish cops? Were you actually there yourself? Do you have a license? Prove it. Maybe they were in bc. Isnt it legal to use bacon for bull trout? I thought it was illegal to fish for bull trout in Canada. It was probably an outfitter. They have way too many bull trout tags. And they all poach.

Haaaappppppy Friday yall :)

Yep.  Seems like some of these young guys cant help posting their illegal stuff on Facebook or Youtube.  There have been a few convicted through the social media sites.

Hey Deerman I think it was 94 when I had my last bacon wrapped bulltrout lol.

I'd have to say that they caught some nice bullies though. Here's his profile pic.

I have always found them to be pretty easy to catch without bait? Maybe I am missing something when I read it?

Lets see some pics of these big bull trout you caught with out bait. I've caught them up to 4 pounds with out bait but the big ones were really hard to catch with out scent.

If I have a choice of bait or no bait I'll pick with bait every time.  Oh, if I can cast a fly it might or might not be as effective but its usually a lot more fun.
