YUP, that's Slave lake.  I did train in Vermillion about 12 years ago but we have our own training grounds and gigantic cement building they built a few years ago that is a great place to train on.

Nice pics and write ups guys!

I envy you fellows that can say "I love my job". I spent 18 years with the City of Calgary and the last 8 were bad years. The pay was decent and the benefits were GREAT but the politics and BS was over the top. The top brass cared for noone but themselves and you were just a number too them that could easily be replaced. Never a thank you or "job well done" and after some time it becomes demoralizing and you get caught up in the, "I no longer care syndrome". Don't mean to sound negative here but it's the truth.

I finally decided to take an early retirement because I was that unhappy. Retired last January and have spent the last 6 months at my cabin in Sask. I was a little nervous at making such a big decision at first but you know what....I haven't looked back and don't regret one minute of it.

Life is toooooo short to be unhappy at what you do and sometimes a mans got to do what a mans got to do!  :)

I build buildings.  To the trade's guys, I'm a 'white hat'.  One thing though is I often seek out the advice of the guys that are physically doing the work.  I thrive on figuring out issues, and helping to solve problems.  I always knew I wanted to know how to put buildings together.

I have worked on everything from a townhouse, a 30 storey high rise, a nuclear bomb shelter, to a hospital.  What I really like is that each job is unique.  I find projects most rewarding when they are buildings used by the public.  Going to a grand opening and seeing a happy user group is pretty cool.

I never thought I'd be paid to work on a backcountry lodge in a world heritage site though.  Got to combine my love for the outdoors with my work.  Can't believe I'm being paid for this!

Hey Diver was that cabin going in the hole or did it come out of the hole.

It was on a stone foundation, with a small hand dug basement.  We pushed it off with hydraulic rams, excavated a new basement with concrete foundations, and we're pushing it back to its original spot.
