So we got a late start today, but since the weather looked amazing decided to wait and take the whole family out fishing to Battle Lake. It was my first time to Battle Lake, but had heard some good things and thought it was about time we make it out there. The weather was perfect in the valley, clouds and cleared and wind was not a factor. The launch is not that great, does not really drop off well and couldn't get the boat off before we got some pointers from the campsite guy. We went further to the Left of the dock and it drops off slightly more and we got the boat off the trailer. Step 1 - boat unloaded Check! Loaded up the kids, wife, inlaws and headed out on the water. Pushed away from the dock and notice the super clear water. Right away I see 4 nice walleye cruising so that was it cut the engine and start casting right out from the launch. Start catching pike after pike pretty much every cast. Then it happens, my coolest walleye hook up to date! I see two big walleye cruise by the boat. I crank my swimbait in cast it out front of where they were headed. I let it hit bottom and slowly start working it back. I feel a nip then another. Soon I see my jig with something following. I drop the jig and give in a couple quick hops. The fish inhales the jig and I set the hook! Right away I see the white tipped tail and the battle is one with the first fat walleye of the day. Got it to the boat and put a tape on her, 59 cm and fat. Probably close to four pounds I'm guessing. Decent first walleye right out front the launch I'd say. I moved us along the shore with the minn kota and continued to catch fish. Decided to head across the lake and give another spot a try. We found similar results across the lake but our ratio of walleye to pike was better. We were only out fishing for 2.5 hours but that sure was worth every minute. Non stop action from 3pm to 5:30 pm. Amazing site fishing! Biggest pike was 68cm and kept him for dinner. The walleye in this lake are in great shape. Awesome coloration and very fat. Glad I went to check it out. Only trouble is trying to get your boat off the trailer.
Good Luck Out There... I'm going to keep on adventuring!
