Fishing Log 2019.
« on: June 06, 2019, 06:43:22 PM »
Will run my fishing log again.

Not a lot to report so far. Took the small boat out on Cold Lake on the 20th just went into the bays looking for some big Pike. Lots of fish but nothing of any size, biggest maybe 3#.

Took the big boat out last Sunday on Cold Lake, can’t say as it was a hard core fishing trip it was more of just a day out of the water. Son and Daugter inlaw with the grandkids. We did drop some lines in for a while and managed a couple small lakers but over all pretty quiet yet. Hopefully next week I get a chance to get out there and give them an honest hard core morning.

Yesterday the 5th I went over into Sask and into 2nd and 3rd Mustas. First time for me into the lakes. 2nd Mustas is a nice little lake with some depth to it. No walleyes wanted to eat but managed lots of hungry Pike, couple decent ones pushing the 7# range, strong cold water fish. Kept one and cleaned and deboned it for the mother Inlaw. Lake was still in the transition stage with globs of bottom junk floating all over place, lake was a real mess, still needs a couple weeks to settle down.

So that’s it thus far, hope to have some more input over the coming week.

Ready to roll at the marina.

Quiet morning on the lake.

Man, if I didn't absolutely have to work tomorrow, I'd be jumping in the Jeep now.
Best of luck tomorrow, should be a nice day.

Lakers were on a feeding frenzy today. We had multiple double headers, biggest maybe 8#. Did not get a pic of it, and a beautiful dark original stock fish released at the boat side, was a fun day. Just getting all the bugs out of the boat and getting used to it before we hit the coast with it, she’s ready now, tuned and set rite up. Bait in teaser head kicked butt today until I ran out, caught 2 to 1 to the spoons. Fish were shallow in the morning, 50 - 30 feet. As the day progressed they went down deeper and 60 - 75 did better.

What a day, and I was only there for 4 pictures of it. Looking good, you got a drone going to. Those days away from home working  are rewarding you now Walleyes.

Right on that is quite the rig, and shiny to boot sure looks like your hard work paid off.  Good luck in your fishing adventures this season.

Just home from a 24 day run at work and hoping to get out over the next few days. I have a cabin booked at Tobin Lake for 2 nights starting the 19th really looking forward to that. If anybody has any info in the lake that would be great as this will be our first time there. Have the cabin booked in Nipawin so will be more on the west side of the lake.
And counting the days until our west coast trip, will book in to our room there on Aug 4th can’t wait for that one.

Never fished the lake to much but the river has world class fishing. Most of the good fishing is downstream of Nipawin. All around the first bend by the little cabin, White Rock, and Eagles Nest are three of the most popular spots but there are walleye, and sauger all through the river. I have had my best luck following the river side break (not shoreline) off the main channel. Just setup with standard lindy rig, or lindy rig with a bottom bouncer, fairly long snell 6' has worked best for us. Start at the upstream of these areas, spin the boat sideways and drift and use your electric to stay right on the break line. When you have drifted these areas, motor back to the start and drift again.  I did catch my biggest walleye on a lindy rig and phelps floater but most of the time just use a single  hook with a glow bead above and a leech. Lots of guys have had good luck with cranks but we did not. Always seem to be the best bite when there is current. Fish early like 6-7 before the boat traffic starts and you will do much better. Probably be your best chance at a 10 lb. + walleye, you don't catch a lot in one day but you put in the time and you or someone in your boat will probably get one.

Momma and I got out on the big lake today, fishing was steady. Anchovy behind an 8” green flasher in a chartreuse/glow teaser head at 75’ was the hot ticket today. Spoons did ok but bait out did them by 3 to 1.

Beautiful day out there today and very quite hardly any boats out and the launch was very quite which is always a bonus.

Did up some fresh from the water lake trout fish tacos today, awesome lunch on the water with my girl.

What a day, you sure know how to treat a girl Walleyes. Most guys would just take their lady to Toco Bell. Your kinda putting a bit of pressure on us guys, next time I take my bride out side to the fire for dinner I’ll need to get gourmet hotdogs.

Nice work Walleyes, really curious how you do at Tobin.  We are really contemplating doing that one next year for a big trip.  Just got back from Seibert and it's really changed from when I was there last.  Basically a walleye lake now but the good part is you won't have any problem filling tags.  We had 6 class B's and 3 class C's and we filled them easily and could have over and over again.  Did get a few pike as well including a couple in the 42-43" range.  I couldn't get super accurate measurement on them as I forgot my long bump board and my smaller board only goes to 36".  Terrific heavy fighters though man one of them I'd put up with any fish for fight.  On the first one, against my best instincts I kept tightening the drag down just to try and slow it down and it didn't seem to make a difference.

Road in is fairly rough just an fyi.

Unfortunately we weren’t able to make it out to Tobin I had to cancel the trip. I got called back to work early ( I’m at work tonight ) one of the guys had a personal issue to deal with. We would have fished Sat and this morning and that just wouldn’t have left me time to travel all the way up to Dawson in time for work. It’s too bad as we were really looking forward to it. Maybe next year.

The boy and I decided to head out to Seibert instead and fill our class B tags. As you say OL_JR it wasn’t hard to do. We filled our tags in an hour and a half with a few over and a couple under in the mix as well. We were on the water by 8:45 and got into them right off the hop. Trolling Minnow Baits off the weed beds in 13-16’ of water. We did try for pike for a couple hours with no luck. But it was a great day and we had an awesome walleye feed last night which was nice.

As you say the road is pretty bad, the 22km trail in takes an hour on it’s own.

Right on good to hear you had some luck and a fish fry.  We always have a great time in that neck of the woods and my wife even commented on how well the fish tasted out of there compared to the sloughs we have around home.

I wouldn't feel bad about not tagging into any pike, we were there for five days and from what I can gather talking to others I was very fortunate to get the ones I did.  We did get a couple real little ones which is hopefully good news for the future, but it really reminds me of another lake I grew up on where the walleye took over, the pike vanished other than the odd big one and twenty years later they are finally starting to come back.  I hope Seibert can recover a bit quicker.
