Great Day on the Pond
« on: May 19, 2011, 11:26:50 PM »
What a great day! It started off by getting a phone call from a friend I hadnt seen in close to three years. She tells me she is in town with her 5 year old daughter and would like to catch up. We end up getting on the topic of fishing and how her daughter Chelsea has never fished before. After a quick trip to Wally World it was off to the pond. I get the Barbie rod set up for Chelsea and show her how it works. Her first cast was prefect, probably 25 feet( I didnt know that reel could hold that much line :o ). She laughs, smiles and sits down. As I start setting up my rod, she gets a bite. She needed a little help reeling in but she lands it. I don't know who has more excited, Chelsea or her mom. Her first fish! I had to take the hook out for her but Chelsea actually wanted to hold it and put it back in the water. After a few more fish for both of us she wanted to bait her own hook. A 5 year old wanted put a worm on her own hook? Ive never seen that before! She poked her finger the first time but wanted to try again until she got it.
Now the sad part, the final count was 18 fish for me and 21 for Chelsea. Thats right I got out fished by a 5 year old armed with a Barbie rod! Im man enough to admit it. The trout were all small but it was great to see her having such a great time.
Now to end this on a good note. After Chelsea and her mom left for the evening there was a woman walking around on the dock texting like crazy. One of those " Im hot and I know it so that gives me the right to be a snooty b***h" types.  She knocked over some guys drink and stepped on a rod without even looking up from the phone. A few more paces back and forth and she walks right of the end of the dock! ;D  Phone goes splash right after the woman does. I was laughing so hard I couldnt speak and tears were rolling down my cheeks. The hole dock was laughing at her. She storms out of the water pouting like a 14 year old who was just told she was grounded. What a way to end a great day!

Great story for a number of reasons!  Were you just tossing worms out to 'em?

Depending on how my day goes I might swing down there for an hour or two and throw some spinners out and see what happens.  I'm sort of going to be all over the place though, and I've got an appointment sometime around 4-5 that's going to mess up my mojo for the day so we'll see if I actually get over there today or not.
Just puttin' it out there...

And did you happen to notice if all the ponds were stocked again, or just the main one with the dock?
