Perch Feast!
« on: February 22, 2012, 09:33:12 AM »
I had a day to get 2 of the kids out with a friend of mine the other day.  Fishing was real good and we almost got a limit of decent sized perch with a few real good ones thrown in the bunch.  Even my 5 year old was catching them all on his own.  My 10 year old was baiting his own hook and pulling the hooks out as well which was nice so I could help the younger one out.
It has been a couple years of not getting out and this year at least I got a couple days in.  My dad threw a dozen of them in the smoker and the rest we had a perch fry with a lot of the family on Sunday.  Can't remember the last time we had fish that good.  Got a few fillets left for a breakfast.  Can't wait!!

Yup, nice to get them out.  The oldest wanted to stay at home and play videos all day.  I told him he was coming and had no choice.  He was glad he did.  He got so bored of catching fish all day I had to change it up and got him set up for pike.  The first one he caught he was handlineing it and was in the tent and he had it up the hole flopping around inside.  Both kids were screaming.  The second pike he was a pro by then he figured and had it up the hole and out of the tent and all I heard was him ask and say Dad can you help me take the hook out of this fish.  I turned around and was surprised to see a pike laying there.  I need to get the kids out more.  I think if I get another day I want to get out to Gull for the burb spawn and catch a few burbs and see if I can get a whitefish or 2 as well.

very nice.  never did make it out this year with the kids.  :(  First winter we have missed since the kids could walk.  There was no ice at Christmas when we like to go and have been doing archery tournaments with them through January and February.  They had a blast doing that too.

Let me know when you have some time to hit Gull Phil, I found a couple good spots last year that produced really well for burbs and whites.  Even a few big pike in the mix... ;D

Incredible pics of your family having lots of fun. It looks like the kids are picking up fishing well from Dads advice.
