Pigeon tags filled..

And it wasn't very hard to do..haha.

The three of us fished there for two days and all totaled we boated about 200 walleye.About 40% were in the 45-50cm range and about 60% were between 50 and 55cm.Junior did get a nice one which was 61cm and 5.5 lbs.But I do have a question.

Are there no pike in Pigeon? We never hooked even one, just walleye...hmm. ???

Anyways it was fun until we had to pack up this morning in a thunderstorm..

Oh yeah....out of the nine tags we had four came off the wire.Luckily we seen them floating away and we were able to retrieve themI think they should use the metal tags or better yet just do away with the tag system.

Given SRD has only been managing Pigeon for walleye, the pike population collapsed. It was only a year or two ago that they brought in the over 100 cm slot size for pike in an attempt to stop any further damage to the pike population. (Over 100 cm effectively stops harvest of pike on Pigeon Lake)

It is not just pike that have collapsed either. Good luck getting perch there and I could be wrong but the white fish population is all screwed up as well. They are very top heavy with very few small white fish being recruited so when the big ones eventually get old and die there will be a total collapse of the white fish population to boot.

YES!!!!
u guys are both right. SRD sucks and pigeon pays the price
a few years ago was worse tho so the tags are slowing improving things i think.
we saw a few pike this year and caught a few whites and baby perch last ice season
a few years back that would have been unheard of.
i think they should continue the tag system here but get rid of the limit to the number of tags you can buy.
each year a ton of tags are unclaimed. why not let the people who want them buy more?
it would only help balance the species to thin out the eyes....
oh, and yes the tags themselves are lame too. zip tags like on swamp people!!!! easy peasy!!!!
my rant for the day. cheers,  gw
Never met a fish I didn't like!!
