Sylvan Lake Regulations
« on: May 24, 2011, 08:58:39 AM »
Page 55 of the 2011 Alberta Guide to Sportfishing Regulations will explain to all you ill advised anglers that were fishing off the pier in town this weekend. I was pulling my daughter around in a wagon on the pier and walked up to one guy and his woman, told them that the area was closed until June 30th, he gave me the i just bought these new rods so f off speech. My blood pressure hit about 9200PSI but i walked away. It's so annoying to watch people fish with a complete lack of respect for the rules and regulations.

Call Report a Poacher, and lets the fish cops deal with it.  You don't want to be throwing guys in the lake like I have seen mentioned elsewhere!

I called the F&G the fellow said they do the best they can with limited staff and a large area it makes it tough to police. He does realize there is a problem there though. I was friendly asked them how they were biting etc etc., it's not my place to be the "cop", i just like to make them aware of the regs. All four guys last night were actually thankful i told them as there were not aware they would get ticketed if the F&G showed up.

Cheers,

Good job on a couple items Sylvan...First you kept your cool with the people when your daughter was with you...Second was your approach with the 4 guys who thanked you after you informed them...Most of us on the forums have experienced both of the situations and yes it can be frustrating….
Treat each day as your last; one day you will be right.

where abouts can you fish on Sylvan and how is it? I've heard there are some nice pike in there.

You can fish the entire lake from May 20th - Oct 31st expect off the landfill pier and marina which is closed until June 30th.

You will see the special closure is doing really well by the below pictures. I counted 11 people fishing off the pier yesterday. I called the Report a Poacher line and made a file. I'm really getting tired of these donkey's not observing the regs, and i'm sick of being nice to these people about it too. I asked one guy if he read the regs when he bought he license and he said "did i need to" in a prickish tone, i said well apparently you did cause your fishing illegally. Then he proceeds to tell me fishing off the pier is allowed and its half moon bay that is closed?
