Trip To Tobin Lake Sask. (Pic Heavy)
« on: July 20, 2012, 07:10:16 PM »
Had a fun trip to a new lake for us. The weather was brutal hot affecting the fishing a bit. Didnt get into many big fish but had a great trip and caught a ton of fish. Ate fresh fish every day and brought our limit home. Enjoy the pics!

Nice pics Sheep, had I know you were up there I would have dropped by to say hello. Only an hour away. Did you stay at the resort or was it a private cabin you's rented?
Yes, you were here in that heat wave, it was brutal and glad the temps have dropped some to a more comfortable degree. I'm heading up to Tobin first week in August. Hearing reports the fishing is good near Codette and east side of bridge. If you can hone in on this Melfort radio station http://tunein.com/radio/CK750-s96104/ they have a Tobin Lake fishing report evey Thr & Fri. It runs periodically all day. You hear some great info here and it's very accurate. They'll tell what and where they're biting in Tobin along with the average sizes. Great info so hang onto the link for the next time you come this way.
Glad to hear you and the family had a good trip at Tobin!

We stayed right at the resort. Was good. Lots for the kids to do. Fished the point off the resort as most fish being caught were there. Ran up to the flats/big lake but that's a 25ish mile run one way so cut into the fishing time. Will definatly go back and now that I know your close we will have to hook up and do a little fishing for sure next time. She is a 12hr drive to get there but well worth the trip. Was amazed at the number of elk we saw up in that country.

Saw all the elk traveling up in the dark. Saw a couple decent bulls and a ton of cows.

Ya, I don't know what it is this year but the elk are everywhere. Friday morning I was headed into town at around 7AM and there were 6 cows right on my front piece. I couldn't believe my eyes because they usually don't come in that close to my dogs. They were in the kennel and I don't think they new the elk were there. I'm carrying the camera with me from now on.

Most of the winter I had a big cow moose in back and Grizz would bark his fool head off at her and it never fizzed  her a bit. Seems like thay are getting use to all the dogs in the neighbourhood barking.
I hope that cow comes back this fall, I drew cow or bull moose in my zone and wouldn't it be nice to shoot one in my back yard. I'm sure the dogs will help me drag it up to my meat pole....lol

Hey Darcy, we hit Tobin today and notta. Tried  3or 4 different places and no luck. Everything from cranks to jigs, spinners, lures and they weren't bitten. I did forget my minnows at home but I really don't think it would have made a difference. Lots of rain lately and the lake is high. I talked to one local and he said too much food in the water from all the rain so they are picky. Next time I'm going to try the river. What were you guys usiing for bate when you were there?

We used midsize stand up lime green jig heads with minnows, leaches and worms. Had pretty even luck with all three but the green jig heads seemed to work better than any other color. A guy on menoutdoors told me that and it seemed to work. Tried other colors and they did catch fish but just not like the green.
